Marathon Expo - Gu

Does anyone remember if they sell Gu packets at the Marathon Expo? I just used my last 3 packets on Saturday for my 20 miler. I could always pick up a box before I leave for Orlando but just in case I was wondering if its available at the expo. I know Cliff is the official energy product of the race but wasn't sure if someone like Track Shack will have Gu. I always have brought my own from home so I never paid attention at the expo.

They have had them in the past. I had to buy one at the W&D expo in October. I can't remember what all flavors they had but they did have chocolate.

The running stores that have booths at the expo usually sell almost every kind of goo, blocks, and beans. I'd say your chances of being able to get what you need are pretty good.

Yes, they def had Gu, and its Clif versions, and I think at least one other version. But if you're picky about flavors, I wouldnt risk it.

Thanks - yeah i might be better getting it before I leave. I can only tolerate the strawberry banana flavored Gu. My first marathon training season I tried the chocolate Cliff shots or whatever they are because I love chocolate but they don't taste like the chocolate I like and I can't even think of using them again. It might be the brown rice syrup in the Cliff.

So much I still have to get before the marathon and I am leaving in 4 days for NC for a week. i might be crazy before I get to Goofy!!

They definitely had Gu brand but again, not sure what flavors they'll have. Look for all the supply booths. There was one during Wine & Dine that had almost every Gu/energy gel you could think of!

Are the prices for Gu, Cliff Shots, Bloks, etc. comparable to what you might pay elsewhere or is buying this stuff at a marathon expo the equivalent of buying a T-shirt at Disney (twice the price for the same thing you could get a few miles outside the gates)?

from what i remember, the prices were around the norm for buying individual packets. $1.99 for a pack of Gu Chomps, etc. That's what I pay at Road Runner by me

If you find out you need a few gels the price at the expo is definitely cheap compared with figuring out how to travel cross town and purchase.

While most all brands and flavors are at the expo it was not always that way. When PowerBar was the official provider of PowerGels on course they had the fore site to get a coke-like contract; meaning that they had an exclusive right for sales of their brand on property. So if you needed a gel and it was not a PowerGel you had to find a store. I am glad that Cliff did not get that kind of deal. Ironically, in those days I used Cliff Shots and today PowerGels. Just a matter of each company changing product up through time and my system changing.

Tricia - We need to get Gu before we travel. We can pick uo S-B for you and give it to you at Pop if you want. They tend ot have a bunch at expo, but we are parapnoid.

i'm completely type a, so i would say it's worth having with you so you have all your ducks in order. but i bring everything with me when i travel...right down to the bagel and peanut butter i plan to eat before the race (because you know, you can't get a bagel any hotel in america. but heaven forbid it's not 100 percent whole wheat )

but if it's not going to cause you major anxiety you should have no problem buying whatever food you want at the expo for a reasonable price

I usually do all my stocking up on Gu at expos. I grabbed a bunch at W&D, but I will prob grab another 10 - 20 in January. Prices are usually 1.25 - 1.50 each depending on how many you buy. You can get them that price online, but this way it saves on shipping.
