My DSIL is running in the 1/2 marathon Jan. 2010. I see that the race is at 5:50am at Epcot. Can anyone answer a few questions for me.
1) Are non-racers (family) allowed inside of Epcot for the start/end of the race? If yes...do you have to have a park ticket for the day?
2) Does the race actually begin/end within Epcot or is it somewhere nearby?
3) Is there transportation available from the WDW resorts to the WWS to pick up packets on the days prior to the race?
4) Are the kids races at the WWS complex? Is transportation to that provided?
5) Any other information you can provide would be wonderful. As you can tell this is the first experience we have had with the Disney Marathon. We are so excited to be supporting him, and having a great time at WDW at the same time!

Good luck to all of you!

KarlaG4Kids The races don't start in Epcot. The 1/2 starts on Epcot Center drive. The race ends in the Epcot parking lot. So if you didn't want to enter a park to see your DH, you wouldn't have to.

Here is a link to the course map. And another link to the Disney web site spectator page.

There is transportation both to the expo and to the race from all Disney hotels.

Don't know where the kids races will be this year.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. That is a cool tool (Spectators calculator). Is there transportation that will take you along the race course? We are wondering where the best place(s) to be to watch DSIL. Since we are without our own transportation I am assuming we will need to be near the beginning/end, although it would be great to be at a couple of spots along the race course.

I just had a thought....Is the monorail running at the time of the marathon? Will that be a viable mode of transportation to get to other locations and cheer DSIL on?

Yes, the monorail will be running very early to allow runners to get to the start, so spectators can use it as well.

Have fun!!

I know when I ran in '08 my DH joined a bunch of WISH Scream Teamers - got to MK early early - screamed to us on mainstreet where we entered, then they joggled for a space by the castle - cheered me as I came down the castle way - then they got on the monorail - and went to EPCOT in the parking lot is where Mile 12 markers are - that was a tough part of the road for me - mile 11 - to the turn, going up I wanted to quit - saw the HUGE group of WISH Scream Teamers - and I got a wave of adrenline!

At MK they entered and did not need a ticket to MK - I think they were there before 7am

They then proceeded to the tent event area - not inside of Epcot to meet me at the end!

When we went to the Sports Complex on Friday to pick up our bags, bib numbers etc - its a HUGE place - the Sharpie people had a booth with plenty of posters and sharpies to make signs!! We took a bus shuttle from Studios to the World Sports Complex - but I know we took a bus from World Sports complex to our resort -

I thought the kids races was at AK? on Friday? I really dont know!!

Know that the race starting at Epcot is at 6am - racers must get on a bus around 4 - 5am - the last bus leaves at 5am - promptly - and if you miss that bus - you are out of luck (I wanted to cheer dh on for the Marathon, and got to the bus lane just as the bus pulled OUT of the parking area!! I grabbed a taxi, but roads were closed and I had to take the cab to MK!! The monorail is running from epcot to mk early - but since I didnt take that I dont have experience on that!)

As the time nears end of Dec, beg of Jan - read the boards, lots of threads and info will be posted! Its how I learned for my first experience - it was all so helpful!

GREAT...VERY Helpful info. Exactly what I needed to know. DD & I have our game plan in place. We will be ready to get to the marathon beginning by being on the bus no later than 5, but probably closer to 4:30. We will hop on the monorail and head to MK to cheer DSIL on and then back on the monorail to get to the Epcot parking lot for the finish of the race. How exciting and fun. I will keep watching the boards for more info as we get closer. Almost time to make our ADR's now!
