hi everyone
going to disney ssr 12-7 through 12-15...hubby and i decided to rent a car the entire trip (budget standard car $133.00 total). Do they have any kind of maps at the resorts that will help us navigate our way to the parks. We are aware of the shuttles (this is our 5th trip), but we want to try driving ourselves instead of waiting for the bus all the time.
thanks

You really don't need a map, just follow the signs to the parks, they are CLEAR and EASY to follow. To return to SSR just follow signs to DTD and then DTD Resorts, then SSR.

Most BELL SERVICES desks have a decent map of the Disney Area, to help you get your bearings. BUT street signs are inconsistent in Disney, so you MUST follow the directionals. DO NOT DEPEND on every intersection having street names posted. (EXAMPLE, World Drive. The only intersection that has a street sign that says World Drive is at Seven Seas in the MK area. ) NOT at Buena Vista or where 536 hooks in. So thats where maps screw people up. They are looking for World Drive, and there are NO SIGNS to World Dr., only to parks.

FOLLOW THE SIGNS:

SIGNS:
PURPLE AND RED, BLUE AND RED, read them, follow them. If you see ALL GUEST AREAS (this or that way), FOLLOW IT or you will LEAVE DISNEY or end up in a backstage area you do not want to be in.
To get you going in the correct direction, when you exit SSR, turn L, go to Light, for AK, MK, EPCOT, go straight, for MGM turn left.

Hope this helps

It's pretty easy to get around from SSR.

There are two entrances to the resort - one near DTD and one on a side street. If you are concerned about getting lost, using the entrance near DTD is easier. From there, if you turn right, and then right at the light, you will pass DTD on the right. A little farther, you will pass Typhoon Lagoon on the left. If you keep going straight, you will go under an overpass, and pass through three traffic lights. The next traffic light will be labeled for the Epcot resorts (on the right) or the Studios (on the left). If you keep going, just past this intersection there will be another light, and then you will see an exit to the right for MK and Epcot. If you keep going straight, you will pass Coronado Springs on the right and Blizzard Beach on the left. Just past Blizzard Beach, you will see an overpass, and an exit to the right marked for Animal Kingdom.

So by just driving on that one road (Buena Vista Drive) you cut through the heart of the Disney property and have access to all the theme parks and water parks. That's the easiest way to go without getting lost. Disney has pretty good signage, so as long as you follow the signs, you'll be OK.

When you check-in, you'll receive a double-folded booklet. There's a map in there.

I've been to WDW over a hundred times and there's times I still take a wrong turn somewhere. Here's a map for you!!!

I'm Sorry you are still making wrong turns, It's probably due to trying to follow a map. I will provide you with two perfect examples:

The intersection of Buena Vista and Epcot Resort BLVD. (Entrance to MGM). I challenge anyone to find a sign at that intersection that says Buena Vista. Find a sign that SAYS "WORLD DRIVE" where Buena Vista crosses over it. IT DOES NOT EXIST, (but it's on the map). So the map becomes useless real quick. The key is follow the signs to the parks, the resort group, the resort. Maps are great, but only to get you going in the right direction. If you depend on street name signs you are done.

I will totally agree with this post.

Was trying to find my way by street signs one time (to drive the bike course before a triathlon, so following signs to a park wasn't an option), soneeded street signs and many were non-existent. After getting lost twice, just between POR and AK, we gave up.

Disney has engineered traffic flow how it works the most efficiently for them. They have also very clearly marked with directional signs how to get from one point to another. They did this for you, so you don't have to have a map. :goodvibes Much easier just to follow the signs.

I agree that Disney property isn't really friendly for someone reading a map.But if you've never been being able to see a map is good to give you an idea where everything is at.
