I just received my DISNEY Files magazine this week. The map showing the # of DVC owners by state is pretty cool.

Has any body compared this map to the RED & BLUE political map of the last presidential election?

I wonder what the overlay of the 2 maps would show.

Are there more DVC'ers in RED states or BLUE states?

I was surprised to see how many DVC members are from Massachusetts. I knew New York and New Jersey had a lot just based to the cars we see going up and down Rt. 95. I'll have to try the red state, blue state thing.

OK- I threw this together quick so there are probably mistakes- but the 1st map is wikipedia's red/blue map. the second map marks the states with membership 5000+ with a yellow dot, and then states with 1000-4999 members with a black dot. All other states are under 1000 (edit- the yellow dots look kind of white)

It will be really interesting to see how this changes when GCV and HI come online. (Not the political aspect- just the numbers by state)

I was just amazed at the California numbers, I know statistically the 5000 from Cali is a tip of the iceberg but its an awful lot when there are no DVC resorts in California. . yet. . .

This will be fun, all 5000 of us trying to book a VGC unit for Candle Light Procession.

What would really be interesting is statistics by percent of population

I agree - I was surprised to see how many members there are in RI - a very small state in square miles but maybe bigger in population than some of the bigger ones.

i'm a Cali gal w/ DVC ;) I bought so i can vacation in WDW! Who cares about resorts here in Socal? I have my own house as a resort ....... wait a minute! Did I just call my house a resort? I'll have to remember that as I'm scrubbing floors, cleaning up dog poop, changing crib sheets, etc etc :rotfl2:

Thanks for posting those maps!

I thought it was interesting that DC only has 50 member families... and we're one of them! I would think DC has enough population (around 600,000 people I think) to warrant more members, but the make-up of the population probably has something to do with the small numbers.

And we are one of the 100 member families in Idaho. I wonder if any other Idaho families are DISers?

Isn't anybody else tired of activities that divide our country into opposing camps? I thought we were all DVCers, but now someone has thought of a way to drive a wedge between us here as well. Sorry to be a grump, but the red/blue thing has damaged our country and I'm not amused.

I just thought it was interesting trivia- although as someone pointed out it means little as pure numbers are very different than %ages. The northeast has lots of money and a relatively short distance to get to wdw- I suspect that has more to with the heavy BLUE representation than actual correlation between political views and dvc ownership.

I think there is little impact from red vs. blue. I think overall state population, the aveage "wealth" per capita, their access to transportation, and closer proximity to a Disney location would have more impact on the demographics.

For instance, not only would Wyoming (for example) have fewer overall members because of lower population, they are farther from Disney parks AND because they are so rural, many people do not have nearby access to an airport...travel is more difficult for them overall than say, someone in NYC or Los Angeles.

Just as I would expect more members per capita in Houston and Dallas than in the more rural West Texas and South Texas areas.

:rotfl: Sometimes DW and I feel that our house is a resort for all of the out of town relatives that like to come and camp out with us for a week or more at a time! Back to back grandparents in Mar, Apr, and May... and more coming in Sep & requesting Nov. I'm getting ready to start selling points myself...

I agree, Chuck, it would be nice to have the data so we could track per capita DVC penetration by per capita wealth, travel time to/from WDW using best route method, etc.

I imagine the DVC folks have all that info, but they most likely ain't sharin'. :)

(BTW: Go, Illinois! Woo hoo!)

Lets make that 101 members from Idaho.

There are many Disers from Idaho on these boards. I think one of the Mods on the CB is from Boise.

This thread has been in my crawl every since someone mentioned that we should rank DVC membership by population. So...I crunched some numbers.

As expected, the Northeast loves DVC. If you live in NJ, there is a 1 in 695 chance that you own DVC. Wow! If you are in NJ, you know a DVC member.

Generally, popularity goes from the Northeast, Midwest, South, then West.

(By the way, I started a new thread with this same information - DVC by state population, or something like that.)

Here are the rankings!

1. NJ 1 in 695
2. RI
3. MA
4. NH
5. CT
6. DE
7. FL 1 in 1300

Very interesting, Mickey'sApprentice! I wouldn't have guessed, for example, that there would be more DVCers in MI than WI.
