Hi all -
I'm wondering if anyone who uses a manual wheelchair (or has family/friends who use a manual wheelchair) has found a way to keep their lap dry (or at least not soaked) when it rains? We are hoping to go to WDW in either late November or April. If our toddler enjoys rain in the parks as he does at home, we would like to try to stay at the park despite a little rain. Any thoughts/suggestions/words of wisdom would be awesome. :)
TIA

I'm planning to buy disposable ponchos anyway and now that my travel companion with be in a manual wheelchair for our trip, I've been wondering the same thing. So I'm thinking on slitting one of the ponchos open and placing the large plastic sheeting on her lap if it rains.

We carry a rain jacket, rain pants and rain poncho with us into the parks and use whichever is most appropriate.

The poncho is long enough that it tents nicely over one's knees when sitting, keeping laps and fronts dry. I am pretty sure this is the one I have: http://www.totes-isotoner.com/totes/product/totes-raines-adult-rain-poncho.do?sortby=ourPicks We bought it at Walmart, but I have also seen them elsewhere. The totes website gives the dimensions, so you have an idea if it will be long enough for you or not.

We put a poncho on DD, right over the top of her whole wheelchair, covering the front and back of her.
One thing to be careful of - the rain that hits the poncho will keep running down until it hits the end of the poncho. At that point it will drip off, possibly right above your feet. So, arrange the poncho so the drips don't go right onto the feet or cover the feet separately.

DD just got a new rain jacket, which is fairly long and will cover a lot of her lap.. We also carry umbrellas, so we don't always go full poncho.

I have a rain jacket from LL Bean that comes a little past my waist. We also bought a poncho that we tuck under my rear and drape over my lap and legs, tucking it under my feet to keep my lower half dry. It has worked well.

I'm reading all these tips and tricks regarding wheelchairs with a special interest. I've invited my friend to WDW as my guest and she has now revealed she has onset emphysema. Thanks to this forum, I was able to locate a recommended rental company and book a small-size wheelchair delivery to our resort. And now, I have lots of info on how to keep her dry in case of rain. NOTHING will stop us to ol' gals!
Thanks Sue for all the relevant info on this forum!

I have used flannel backed, vinal tablecloths. I cut in half. It is long enough to cover my feet but not too wide to get caught in my tires.

I go with the poncho, it covers most of my and the chair but my feet do get wet. It's not too bad since I can't feel them. :)

I usually use the disposable ones so I can just toss them once they are wet. Here's a picture to show how much it covers:
