Cheez - if Roger had wanted to plunk him, he'd have gotten it A LOT closer than that!!!

Brushbacks are a part of the game, Manny. If you want to get back at them, dig in and get a hit!

That said, I think they ought to do away with the DH just so the pitchers can take their turns in the batter's box.

Gimme that old time baseball.

*Spoiler*

Game ended with the Yankees winning 4-3, but Pedro is looking to get 2 points for the take-down on Zimmer.....

That pitch wouldn't qualify as a brushback! Ramirez was ducking before he knew where the pitch was going. Go Yankees!

You're right! That pitch was up, but over the plate. I've seen Boston a couple of times this year and Manny has been crying each time I've seen him!

I was totally shocked when I caught the replay and him laying out Don Zimmer. I mean the poor guy is 75 for crying out loud -- pick on someone your own age! Did anyone else find that appalling??

Let's Go YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found it totally appalling, Kallison. If Major League Baseball had any kind of you know whats they would suspend Martinez for the rest of the playoffs, but you know that's not going to happen. And what about the grounds keeper fighting with the Yankee pitchers. Totally unbelievable:(

First, Derek Lowe makes an obscene gesture toward the A’s dugout???. Then Pedro throws an old man to the ground???. Unbelievable!!! ESPN just reported Don Zimmer is in the hospital, I hope he’s OK. We need two more wins for Zimmer!!

I don't care if the guy is 75 or not- he was asking for it by going after Martinez. He should have kept his butt in the dugout and minded his own business. He got what he deserved. And taken to the hospital? Please. He was well enough to stay around for the game. Me thinks the trip to the hospital was more for the cameras than anything else.

Go Sox!!!!

none of that's gonna matter after the Cubs knock out everyone

How you Red Sox fans can even support that punk Martinez is beyond me. You should be ashamed of his behavior, and that's even before today's classless display. Yes, Zim was heading for him, but Peedro is 31 and in top athletic form. All, he had to do was back away. Instead he pulls a wrestling move on a 72 year old guy? A coach has the right to be on the field in that situation anyway. And shouting to Posada that he'd drill him in the head next time around...truly classy.

I hope Zim files charges against that punk.

By the way, the Babe is not happy tonight:mad:

We're talking about a GAME here, right?

And yes, a coach may have the right to be on the field, but he does NOT have the right to charge a player. You mean to tell me that if a Red Sox coach had done this to one of the Yankees pitchers that you wouldn't be screaming foul the other way? Yeah, OK.

The coach had no right to do what he did. Period. End of sentence.

Major League Baseball should have ejected both Ramirez and Clemens if they had the guts. But the Yankees would have benefitted anyways because they have better pitching. The coaching staff has every right to be on the field to maintain order.. Lets us not forget.. Zimmer was drilled in the head as a player and he has a steel plate in his head.. plus he was a manager of the Red Sox in the 70s. He was I am sure not happy about any pitcher his own included going after a batter. Maybe he was saying somthing to Martinez and Martinez just lost it.
I am still applled by the behavior of the high priced Ramirez. In early September, The Red Sox had the Yankees on the ropes and he sat out for the whole series with a sore throat and laughing in the clubhouse, after the Sox lost two games against the Yankees. Also he had mental breakdown when a pitch a bit inside was thrown by Clemens and he charged the mound. Clemens could have drilled him right between the eyes at any time , just like he did to Piazza. The Red Sox have no class.. derek lowe pitched a brillant game to lead the Red Sox to a exciting improbable win against the As and what did he Do.. Grabbed his crotch and in essence told the A's to stick it as The Yankees have won because they have what it takes to win. For example . Derek Jeter came back early from his seperated shoulder and it showed.. he had a lousy season up to the All- Star break and had a briliant second half when he shoulder fully healed. Of course he hit one out today.. Giambi is playing with a bad knee.. Bernie Williams is still playing with his knee still not fully healed. Gee.. if Ramirez had a ingrown toenail he would sit out of a playoff game. GO GO Yankees..

I hope Zim files charges against that punk.
That's kinda hard to do when you're the guy that instigated the situation. When you charge a guy with your fists out (I don't care how old you are), don't blame the other guy for shoving you down. That whole bench clearing incident was totally uncalled for.

It will be reallllyyyyy interesting Sunday night

GO YANKEES !!::yes:: :hyper: ::yes::

Pedro should be suspended for pointing to his temple and yelling repeatedly at Posada “I will hit you in the head”. No matter how much you dislike the Yankees, that is very poor sportsmanship!!!

I can't wait till all the facts come out on all of this. I don't think the Yankees can claim to have much class..they attacked a groundskeeper?
I have to go with Geoff here... the assault was comitted by Zimmer. Technically Pedro could file charges against him.
What he should be called on the carpet for is taunting, that pointing at his head thing was ridiculous.

I've never been a Yankee fan....never. Not until I saw the game tonight. I can't be for the Sox after the display I saw tonight. Shame on Pedro! And go Yankees.

I'm not a Yankee or Red Sox fan, but wife loves the Yanks. I watched the game, and the melee in the 4th. My wife had stepped out when Zimmer got thrown to the ground, but when she first saw it she said Pedro should be thrown out. I told her to sit back and wait to see the whole thing on replay. When they showed it again and she saw Zimmer take after Pedro, she even said he deserved it. What was he thinking, I mean he's 70+, out of shape man going after a 20? in prime shape. Maybe that plate interferes with his thought process. The Rocket didn't even retaliate and still had the Sox so scared, they were ducking during his windup. Stupid move on Pedros part, took his teams agressiveness away, they were so afraid of retaliation. Especially with Roger's past. Anyone of you Yanks fans remember Mike Piazza?

Stupid move on Pedro's part, hitting Garcia.

Dumb move on on Zimmer's part, attacking Pedro.

They deserved to lose this one. But no remorse here for Zimmer - he's no stranger to brawls and shouldn't be surprised by pitching antics, of all things.

Ramirez definitely over reacted, but let's not forget that Roger is known for hitting batters. I thought Pedro was saying, "I would hit you in the head if I wanted to hit you." and as far as that moron Zimmer goes, he got what he was looking for. Humpty Dumpty should have stayed on the wall and not gone and charged the mound:rolleyes: I have NO sympathy for jerk. Martinez showed restraint in my opinion.

Both teams displayed poor sportsmanship! Zimmer charged Pedro. Pushing him down was self defense. Who cares if the guy is in his 70's- he shouldn't be charging anyone. They are saying now that there will be charges filed on 2 of the Yankees for assaulting the groundskeeper. The guy was attacked for cheering for his team? The Yankees have no right to tell anyone to stop cheering for a team. This is what these guys are paid millions to do? What wonderful role models for our children!
