Great article in the Sept/Oct 2003 issue of Cruise Travel magizine. Their rules for Good Manners are:

1. Get to the dining room on time.
2. Don't sit down front if you plan to leave a show/performance before it is over.
3. Complain only to someone who can do something about it.
4. Adhere to the shipboard dress code.
5. Wait your turn.

If anyone wants a copy of this article, PM me.

I think those are wonderful,.,, I would change number three though or add "complain only when something CAN be done about it" so many people complain about the weather etc, like DCL can control rain storms, high winds or rough seas...

Since you are sailing the week before me please point that out to the captain so he has all the bugs worked out before I get on :)

Not a problem. I will make sure that there is enough sunshine and warm weather left for you. Can't get any worse that the heavy winds, cold weather and snow we are having here in Ohio today!!! I will wave to you as we are leaving the ship! :wave2:

Just hide under our bed.. we are in 6596.. you can stow away there until we check in, then you are on your own, I bet there are enough places to hide out for a week.. there you go a back to back cruise :hyper: :teeth:

Lori, I'll pm you about the article.

We got the wind and cold down here too. Sorry to say, we haven't had snow yet. I guess being in the "south" does have it's advantages. :sunny:

Hey don't forget to leave a little sunshine for the Christmas Cruise. Just a little if you could please.

Those rules RULE!:yo-yo: :wave2:

Thank you SO much for posting these LG123! I think they're so good that they should be reposted.

As wonderful as cruising is can you image how much better it would be if EVERYONE followed these 5 siimple rules.::yes::

Speaking of elevator buttons, DH and I sat on the steps of the lobby on our last cruise and watched how many people would go up to the ALREADY LIT arrow button and push it again. It is very entertaining. That should be a show in itself! Do you think these people think that will make the elevator come faster or do you think the are under the impression that the person who pushed it before them didn't do it right?

You would think the rules would be just common sense. Dh and I were talking about this the other night and decided that they should come up with a National Lampoons Cruise Vacation movie. I can just see cousing Eddy in his tropical shorts, tank top (dirty), black socks and white dress shoes walking into the dining room on formal night with his six pack in hand. I just love those movies!!!

That would be hilarious! Quick, send it in, send it in!

Gearing up to break out my Christmas Vacation DVD. Nothing like putting up the decorations and then watching Clark put up his.

Beat you to it! We put up our tree while watching Christmas Vacation last Sunday. I just love that movie. That and the Vegas Vacation one.

Yeah, Vegas is great too. ::yes::
But last Sunday, I won't even get my Christmas music out until Thanksgiving weekend.

in our house no Christmas music or decorations until Thanksgiving is over. Year after Year I remind my DH of how cold it is for him after Thanksgiving outside putting up the decorations and every year he says next year I will change the RULE!

I like a real tree so we never get that until Christmas week or the week before! I am impressed with all of you being so prepared. I am to busy packing and worrying about the upcoming cruise to really be thinking of any holiday!

As far as the elevator button repush - 2 weeks ago DH and I parked in a garage and were waiting for the elevator. There had to be 20 people all standing around waiting and waiting and waiting! The button was pushed by the way! When out of nowhere comes a couple who walks in front of us all, the woman practically gets on her knees (to see light) to confirm the button was pushed, she then pushed it and politely moved over to the side! I was thinking to myself - does she think there could be that many stupid people standing around staring at 3 elevator doors, in the cold without pushing the button!

This is our 3rd cruise but the 1st 2 were on small ship not as many passengers or as many things offered as DCL however the (5) rules above seem like common courtesy for your fellow passengers - I hope I have good experiences with my fellow cruisers! I am not one to be late, nor do I leave ANYTHING Disney early (unless children are unruly) - as far as dress code I think I know what is appropriate at least I have obscessed on the DIS since March over what to bring so I must be prepared  I try to be kind to other (may be the nurse in me) - wait my turn well isn't that what lines are for!

The person who posted the rules is on my cruise in less than 2 weeks - we know that 2 families will be following the rules :teeth:

Can't wait for our sailing! The panic is setting in!

Unfortunately, that doesn't only happen in movies. I saw a guy like that on the Magic...the only exception is he had sandals and black socks- not dress shoes. I absolutely swear! And he did have a six pack, but it was in a cooler.

It's unfortunate you need to post rules for proper etiquette, but common sense is dead as well and the two go hand-in-hand. I'm about as casual a guy as you can imagine, but I'm sure to dress formally on formal night and semi-formal on those nights. Is that really too much to ask?

The rule I would add is this. Don't be a chair hog! It is not acceptable to save 4 or 5 chairs by the pool, go have breakfast...take showers..etc. then come back to your spot.

I think that the rule should be a member of your party if not all of your party should utilize your chairs for 30 minutes each hour or you don't need the chairs! I usually scope out chairs and if there is not a person in site for 30 - 45 minutes and personal belongings are not on the chairs, I just freshen the towel with my own and call it mine! It is not only unfair to hold chairs it is RUDE if you don't plan to use them for a period of time (IMHO)!

I would add a few more to the list........

Worry about yourself and your actions not what others are doing.

Let others enjoy their vacations without fear of being judged by their clothing.

Try to understand that you are not in charge of making sure others follow the rules.

If more people followed these "manners" there would be a lot fewer problems with the ones quoted above!

Steve

Steve, I am not sure how you wanted posters to this thread to take the previous comment! But I am out of this thread because once again a negative jab is posted to bring down the rest!

I wish posters would stick to the flow of the topic and stop the personal insults/attacks :(
