Trip Report Tues 11th May Sun 29th May 2005
Islands of Adventure
It has been a couple of years since we last went to IOA, and I wasnt that bothered about going back, as I wasnt into big rides. So this year with the £49 tickets offer of 7 days for the price of 2, I thought it was too good a deal to miss. Now as a family we always like to try something new, and this years task was to go on The Hulk. As we walked over to Marvel Super Hero Island, I felt my stomach lurch as The Hulk stood overhead. We put all our things in a locker and joined the very small line, and within 5 minutes we were at the loading area (far too fast for my liking as I didnt have time to calm myself down). Being a bit of a scaredy cat I insisted that I sit in the middle, and before I could catch my breath the restraint was being pulled down and we were slowly moving forward
..next thing it was aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh and sh**, sh**, sh**, I was ashamed to say that the air was blue !!!!!!!.
Half way around the ride, I coaxed myself to open my eyes . When suddenly .. I realised that . I was Loving this ride. We got off, and went straight back into the still short line and rode it once again. The Hulk became my official fave ride in Orlando. After The Hulk we got an Express Pass for Spider Man, and then went to try Dr. Dooms Fearfall, (I was expecting big things from this ride but I didnt think it was any better than Apocalypse at Drayton Manor), we then went on Spider Man (this too seemed a better ride than the last time we rode it, and we all enjoyed it). We walked around the IOA and did the Jurassic Park River Adventure and then we came up to Duelling Dragons, again this was a ride that Id never done before, but I was coaxed on by the girls. During our holiday we rode both sides of this ride several times, it was ok, I never really enjoyed it that much as it wasnt as smooth as The Hulk.
During one day of our trip the Express Pass machines seemed to go a bit hay-wire and we were able to have as many EPs as we wanted and for different rides so we were lucky enough to do The Hulk 3 times, Spider Man twice and Duelling Dragons twice in one morning - brilliant.
So to summarise we really enjoyed our time at Islands of Adventure, we became rollercoaster/thrill ride junkies and it will always play a part in our future holiday plans.
Universal Studios
Unfortunately due to the thrill of the big rides at IOA, it meant that we cut back on our visits to US. So on the one day that we did go, we certainly had a great time. First we set off for the Revenge of the Mummy. The girls really didnt fancy this at all, but as Id been so brave at IOA, 'it was tough luck pal, youre going on !!. Like all the big rides at IOA, the pre-show area for The Mummy goes on forever and you feel like you walk for miles (well not quite) by the time you get to the loading area. The pre-show for The Mummy is no different, but it is good, it looks like Egyptian tombs, and at one stage a lad yelled/jumped out at Becky and I thought shed pass out with shock. Anyway along the way is a TV with Brendan Fraser talking (honestly I can think of worse people to watch while standing in line yum, yum!!!,), but thankfully there was no line and we were straight on. What a great ride, youre on a rollercoaster (doesnt go upside down), but it goes backwards and forwards, and youre chased by the Mummy and those horrible little scarab things (yuck). I really enjoyed this and being a horrible mum, I made the girls go back on it again.
Universal Studios was empty that morning, we walked around the lake and went on the Men In Black ride twice (really like this ride, its much better than Buzz Lightyear), we also went on Back to the Future (I dont like this, you feel like youre being bashed around in there), then we went on E.T (arrr so cute!!). Becky had her photo taken with Scooby Doo and Shaggy and then we had lunch at Mels Drive-In (just the usual burgers, fries etc.).
After lunch we lined up to go to see Shrek 4D, it was quite good, the effects were good but it wasnt as impressive as Mickeys PhilharMagic, but I guess its because of the wonderful Disney music and characters that are in it.
After Shrek we went to see Twister . Ride It Out, this is clever as they make a tornado look like its there in the room with you. I must of stood in the wrong place because when I came out I looked like Id been in a storm, my hair was soaking.
We were thinking about going on The Mummy again, but the heat was getting to us and when we saw a crowd of people heading towards it, we decided to call it a day. So we headed for the shops and our way out
So once again we had a great time at Universal Orlando.
Final Part to follow .....
