Hi All, we got a telephone call from a virgin rep asking if we would like to make use of the new V room at Manchester Airport. It sounds good but wondered if it is worth doing, we like to have a wander around the shops and we normally pay for breakfast approx £20 for the 3 of us. Anybody have any info that may make it worthwhile? TIA, Debs xx :)

Anybody who has used Gatwick or Heathrow with advice would be helpful????? :confused3

Hi Wayne, think its approx £20 per adult, I just wondered if anybody had used this facility at the other airports as this is based on the same idea as them. It sounds good but wasn't sure if it was a lot to pay out for what you get. Debs x :)

Hi Debs

I can't comment on the V Room as I have not used them. Two months ago I used an airport lounge (Sky Lounge at Glasgow International) for the first time in several years. It was worth it for me for the following reasons:

  • It was nice to have somewhere calm and quiet to sit, as opposed to joining the masses at the gate seating area
  • We went through security early and had enough time to browse the shops a bit first. I don't want two hours of shopping, but neither do I need to be sitting in a lounge for a full 3 hours, so it was perfect.
  • We would ordinarily have gone to get something to eat and probably two beverages each while waiting for our boarding time. This would have cost us pretty close to what we spent per person on the lounge.

The family lounge we used was nothing special, but it was nice to be able to help ourselves to snacks and drinks, have decent sofas to sit on and proper tables to work on if we wished to do so. Of course my daughter is under 12 so she paid half price. If I had a family of 4 or 5 'adults' I might have a closer look at spending £20 per head though.

I've booked it for our trip next October :cool1:

My DH has always believed that holidays are special so to hell with the extras! We're even stopping at the Raddison again the night before even though we don't fly until 1.30pm :)

We always have a meal at the airport be it breakfast or lunch so when I looked at the menu it looked pretty decent and I'm sure with numerous coffees and kids drinks etc that will certainly use up a big chunk of the charge. Plus it's a chance to relax before the confinement of that long flight!!

As we'll be at the airport from Mid morning we'll do our shopping first and then wander over to the lounge at whatever time we're allowed in.

Yes, I think my 2 G&Ts plus glass of wine and coffees would have cost more than I paid for the lounge anyway. I think you do need to weigh it up if your flight is relatively early though. I mean, you're not exactly going to have wine with your breakfast

I think they offer Eggs benedict which go lovely with a glass of champagne ;)

We have used the Gatwick V-Room.

Soft drinks were free and the food was OK but nothing special.

We had the 1pm flight when we used it so it was a nice escape however we would never pay for it if were on the early flight at 11.15 as we only just get through security in time for a quick look at the shops before boarding.

Personally the food offerings in the V-room are not enough to warrant the price now (when we did we paid about £15) as we can buy breakfast for all 3 of us for less and we usually get a bed & breakfast rate at the hilton where it is £14 for all 3 of us to have breakfast!

Is the V Room before security? If so, I don't know that I would pay for it. I have only ever used lounges after security and did check our one for this year before booking it to make sure it was after, not before as this creates a rush since you can only check in 3 hours before your flight departs. You raised a good point with that comment.

The V-room is after security but as we use either online or twlight check in and stay overnight at the airport we are never through security until about 90 mins before and with boarding about an hour before doesn't make a lounge a cost effective option.

Ah, yes twilight check in - I forgot about that. As far as I know that is not offered at Manchester (yet) so that wouldn't be a factor, but yes, if I had the option I would use the twilight check in, arrive later and skip the lounge - unless VH were giving it as a freebie :rolleyes1

Hi everyone, thank you for all your info, our flight is at 11.00 so maybe it might not be worth it, I will see how other people go on nearer the time and have another think about it.

Thanks again,

Debs x :)
