Mammograms

If you want to reduce anxiety, choose an imaging center that gives results before you leave. When I walk in, I know I will know before I walk back out.

My doctor always orders the 3D imaging, and I always get the 'heterogeneously dense tissue which may lower the sensitivity' message. While I have no family history of breast cancer, he claims the most common age range for it to strike is 55-69 (I'm 62)
many experts are now recommending anyone with dense breast tissue get an ultrasound as well. The procedure is painless, easy, non-invasive. (wish I could say the same for getting my insurer to cover it - but many insurers do with no problems.) You might want to check into it further?

I'm going to tell my silly Mammogram story. Prior to having my first one, I knew they "squished" your breasts to get the image. I 100% pictured some sort of plate that you stood in front of that squished your breasts flat, toward your body. Imagine my surprise when I showed up for my first one and realized it was a top to bottom squeeze. I have no idea where I got that image in my head of how it was done. I guess I should have done a little research before showing up so I wasn't so surprised.

I’m like a previous poster - breast fed all 3 kids so boobs to me are just blobs of tissue that everyone has seen. Yes it was a bit uncomfortable but the nurse who did mine was so gorgeous. She immediately distracted me by chatting about my shoes - afterwards I realised she didn’t give a hoot about my shoes, she was just chatting to get my mind of my boobs being handled and squooshed.
