We're trying to decide on a place for lunch while in MGM. We will have our 6 mo. old DD with us and chances are we will need to feed her while we are having our meal. I figured that 50's Prime Time would probably be too noisy and busy and Sci Fi Dine In too dark to see what I'm doing. I thought a full service restaurant would be better for a break from the heat and activity so I guess our options are Mama Melrose's and Brown Derby. The menus look great at both places. Which would give us a nice quiet relaxed atmosphere for feeding baby? Or does anyone have other suggestions? Thanks in advance.:)

You will probably get a variety of answers. I know we would go with BD.

I would choose Mama Melrose's with a 6 month old unless yours is a very placid baby. BD has always had very leisurely service in our experience. Not inattentive...it just takes a long time to get each course. This adds up to a longer meal than MM.

Both places are a great respite from the park. Enjoy whichever you choose!

I've never eaten at BD. We ate at Mama Melroses last trip and it was one of the restaurant highlights for the trip. the food was very good and the atmosphere is very nice. The layout is excellent you don't feel like you are packed in like other restaurants..

I would definitely go with Mama Melrose!!!!!

My 4 yr old dd and I had lunch at MM on Friday. It was a nice relaxing escape from the chaos of the park. The food was good, she was happy and it was a very casual and comfortable atmosphere. I think this would be a good choice for a family with young children or babies. We were in and out in less than an hour.

It's been several years since we've been to BD. But, I do remember it taking much longer.

As good as MM can be (not that we don't like it, but we find it to be average/overpriced food), BD is 10x better, IMHO. The food is more interesting and is prepared better. MM is pretty typical of Italian food you get get just about anywhere. While we have come away from MM with the average/overpriced feeling after a meal, we have never felt that way leaving the BD, even though it costs a little more.

As for a 6 month old, you'd do fine at BD. We have always taken our kids there, and each has been from the time they were 7 months. BD is no different from any other WDW restaurant. Soemtimes the service is fast, sometimes it is slow. There have been times the meal seemed to take forever at MM and the service was slow, so that could happen at either location.

I completely agree with BCV23. Although I LOVED BD and thought it was one of the highlights of our trip, I would not go there with a 6mo. old for the same reasons BCV stated. You will still get a very nice atmosphere at MM and the food is adequate with a more relaxed atmosphere for a family. Just my 2 cents.

Another vote for Brown Derby. When DH and I were there back in May of 01, a family came in with their young children, possibly 4-5 and an infant I would put at about 7 months or so. Don't worry, Brown Derby is like any other restaurant, you'll do just fine with your infant. :D

Just to clarify that I certainly wasn't implying that an infant wouldn't be welcome at BD. Children of all ages are expected and welcomed all over the World (well, not too many at V&A). I just know at 6 months both my sons were raring to get out of a high chair after an hour or so. My daughter was fine with meals that lasted longer. Babies are all so different.

the brown derby has a nice, quiet atmosphere - a pleasant escape on a hot, busy day - and a cobb salad with some grapefruit cake for dessert is a favorite for us!

Another vote for the Brown Derby. It is a lovely restaurant with a very relaxed atmosphere.

Hope this helps?

We took our DD's 5 and 3 to BD and didn't have a problem with slow service. The server was great with them.

I agree with DISNEYKIDDS, our area is blessed with many fine Italian restaurants and there wasn't anything on the MM's menu I couldn't get locally.

The meal at BD was tied with CRT for best dinner. I had the crab-cakes apetizer and it was mostly crab. BD is now on our list of must-do's.
