Mama Melrose or Alfredo's?

My wife and I will be going back to Disney World in late September and will be taking advantage of the free dining plan. We were last in WDW when we got married in March and wanted to take another trip without the family all with us in Sept.

One question I have for this upcoming trip is related to Italian food and where to eat on the dining plan. We ate at Alfredo's in March and we all liked it a lot (although I have read many mixed reviews on these boards). We are conisidering this time around to try out Mama Melrose in MGM. What do you guys think? If you are able to eat for free at either restaraunt, which would you select and why? I have never eaten at Mama Melrose and would like to hear feedback on how that restaraunt compares to L'Originale Alfredo's.

Thanks!

Hi, we just got back and ate at both. We had adrs for Mama Melrose and ended up at Epcot one day at lunch without adrs and they had availability only at Alfredo's, San Angel and Marrakesh. That should have been our first clue. We chose Alfredo's and were very disappointed with our meal. I am very easy to please and although I like good food, I am by no means a food snob. The place was virtually empty. My husband had the lasagna, which he thought was just okay. The kids got the pasta and marinara sauce from the kids menu. I can only describe it as "slimy" not so much as watery. I got the "gourmet" pizza with proscuitto. It was completely covered with deli size slices of proscuitto to cover the burned cheese that was underneath. The pizza was the equivalent of an Elio's pizza. That's exactly what it tasted like. Therefore, the kids ate it and loved it. I was lucky to have gotten a Caprese appetizer, as that was fine. I has the chocolate mousse for dessert and it was very good but for the $76.00 lunch, it was very disappointing and we won't be back. Also, when our server pesented us with the check he just stood there waiting for us to fish out out room card to pay. It was very strange. We live very close to great italian restaurants and Alfredo's just didn't do it for us. Mama Melrose was very good and they could give lessons on gourmet pizza to Alfredo's. I had heard not so good things about it, but it was very good and the servers were so friendly they got a 40% tip. We would definately go back.

We just ate at Mama's, the appetizers were good, salads were good, the entrees were not good at all.

Alfredo's has been good every time we go, never a disappointment there, so we would choose Alfredo's.

alfredos hands down. we love the homemade fetticine alfredo, yum!

Wow, that's so wierd...you really do get so many different opinions!

I ate @ Alfredo's a long time ago (2/00) & thought it was passable at best, & I eat like a billygoat - anything'll do as long as I can chew it.

I was very hesitant to try Mama Melrose (not sure why), but went this past May & found it to be very good. The pasta was al dante (sp? - you know, not mushy) & the appetizers pizzas were very good. I ran the next day in a road race @ Disney & didn't hurl, so it couldn't have been that bad, right? :rotfl:

I remember Alfredo's as tasting like jar sauce. But again, that was a long time ago.

Try something new this time around!

mmm...my vote is for Mama's! I just made ADR's for our trip in October. Great - now I'm hungry for Italian! :teeth:

I think Mama's if you want Fantasmic package. We've done it for two years and always thought the food was great, we've had good service both time and never been disappointed.

We tried Alfredo's for the first time this year and had an outstanding meal. The service was great, fun being served from authentic indivduals from the country the food is from and the experience is fun. The ceasar salad and lasagna I had was incredible. The meal was a little long for the kids but it was fun. The deserts here were better in my oppinion too but I had a chocolate cake with warm chocolate inside at Mama's that was good to. For us the big perk of Mama's was the Fantasmic package. Without the package and just the choice of the two for the food I'd pick Alfredo's.

DH & I have eaten at both of these restaurants and I have to say, we really enjoyed Mama Melrose. I got the lasagna at Alfredo's during our honeymoon in 2003 and it tasted like band-aids...not good!
