Mama Melrose or 50's Prime Time

We always do Sci Fi and this year I added Mama Melrose because DH and DD love pasta but I've been looking at interior photos of 50's Prime Time and it looks fun and different although the menu doesn't overly appeal to me. I know they are completely different but is the quality of food higher enough at one or the other to help me decide?

I would do the 50's this time and hit Mama Melrose's the next time......the fried chicken, smores and the atmosphere is not to be beat at the 50's!!

It depends what type of food you're interested in. I love both restaurants, but they are different. Mama Melrose's is great for Italian foods - pasta, pizza, etc. 50's has more homestyle meals like fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast, etc. Both are equally good meals and it's a tough decision. Last year we did 50's so this year we're doing Mama's.

I personally would do Mama Melrose over 50's Prime Time. I've tried both, and like you said the menu at 50's Prime Time doesn't really appeal to me.

I went to Mama Melrose in November 2005 and got the BEST chicken parmesean I've ever eaten!!! We are going there for our September trip, and also you can't get the Fantasmic package at 50's Prime Time Cafe. (I've never seen Fantasmic, so that fact was really important to me!!!)

Whatever you decide, have a great time and great food!! You really can't go wrong with either one, they are both a nice atmosphere (though different) and both kid friendly!!!

I would pick 50's Primetime. We have eaten ther many times and always enjoyed it. It is also one of the better TS values at WDW.

I have never eaten at Mama's, but 50's was one of the worst meals I have ever had at WDW. It could have just been an off day or something, but my meal was not good at all. DF and I both had chicken caesar salads. Our lettuce was all old and wilted, and it was drenched in dressing. We wanted to complain to our server, but she was very busy and we just wanted to get out of there.

However, the theme is very cute. My mom is not a big fan of the restaurant either, but she always goes there b/c it brings her back to the 50's.

Hate to confuse things more...BUT WE (family of 5) did not care for Mama Melrose at all!!! I opted for it as it was the "best value" on the meal plan....bad choice! Now, to be fair, my dh is Italian and is an AWSOME cook...SOOOO that being said, maybe I expected too much???? Dh's meal "pasta fradiablo" barely had any seafood!!! My chix parm was..ummm...edible. The salad was great but even my little guy (who eats pasta for breakfat, lunch and dinner) hated the pasta!

Now, as a past "server" I know there are "off" nights. However, I will choose a different restaurant next time..NO DOUBT!

Again, personal experience.....I have had incredible meals at places that some hate!!!

I thought Mama Melrose was fine. It makes it much better than the Prime Time Cafe. I find the 50s Prime Time to be the most annoying obstrusive restaraunt in WDW. It is easily my least favorite place. The annoying schtick has got to go.

Absolutley 100% prefer Mama Melrose

We skipped Mamas in favor of 50s Prime Time this last trip and won't do so again. 50s was just okay in my opinion. My DM and I shared the Pot Roast and I think they used one entire carrot not for our plate but for the entire night!

We enjoyed the decor and watched the antics across the room but it was a one time is enough deal for us at Prime Time.

For quieter meals we prefer Mama Melrose's but if we want to have fun with the kids, we would go to Prime Time. We enjoy the meals at each of them.

Our boys just love 50's prime time cafe they are aged 14 & 10 and think the entertainment and food is excellent, we can't wait to take my parents for their first visit this year I am sure they will love it as they are of an age to remember how things were back in the good ole days
