We have a lunch reservation in November for Brown Derby. It will be an OOP for us, tho were on dining plan. Thinking now of switching to Mama Melrose--more selections for vegetarian DD14, and cheaper. Wondering tho if its very run of the mill Italian--goopy sauces, etc etc. Since you can get Italian anywhere, Im wondering if its "nice" enough to switch to--or just go to BD because its so unique...thoughts ???? :confused3

I'll freely admit that while I absolutely adore Italian food, I am prejudicial towards the Brown Derby. :) The Brown Derby is one of our family's favorite restaurants, and we go there every year--it is very unique, and I think that the quality of service and the atmosphere more than make up for the price. :) Mama Melrose's is nice, and the food is delicious, but I think the Brown Derby would be a better choice. You'd have to check out the menus (check on www.allears.net) but I think the Brown Derby does have several vegetarian options, though I'd have to double check. My dad (who loves meat) gets the Cobb Salad everytime--it's his favorite. :) P.S. If you do go, eat some grapefruit cake! :)

I have never been to the BD because their menu doesn't appeal to my family. We have been to Mama Melrose's lots of times and have never been disappointed! We were just there in May for lunc and it was our least expensive meal of our trip and we were so full!! It definately isn't run of the mill Italian food, or goopy sauces.

We love both of them for lunch but for my family if we were to choose only one it would be Mama's.

I was having trouble deciding, myself, but my ressies are for Mama's and not BD, so I think I'm sticking with what I have. We're on the DDP, too, but will probably pay OOP here to use TS someplace else.

That said, the BD menu is VERY tempting- especially the grapefruit cake. So, can you walk up and order a piece to go or will they tell me to scram? pirate:

Thanks!

We will be trying BD this time as our meal at MM was very poor. The service was really bad too.

i'd recommend the brown derby. i'm a vegetarian and i love the thai noodle bowl which is offered at both lunch and dinner.

you can also get the cobb salad made without meat - ask for a little extra of the other ingredients instead to make it vegetarian friendly.

i notice that you're from outside chicago - chances are, if its anything like where i live in the suburbs of nyc, you have much better italian food in your local italian restaurants than "italian" restaurant at wdw - mama melrose or alfredo's, in my personal opinion

the brown derby is always on our short list of restaurants - and at lunch, the prices are more reasonable for nearly the same menu as dinner - it's also so hollywood!
