Maltese Falcon in Meridian on Disney Dream

My wife and I recently were on the Disney Dream; and one evening while having drinks in Meridian before dinner I noticed the book case had a Maltese Falcon statue as well as a copy of the Maltese Falcon book.

I love getting the stories behind little details like this, but literally none of the crew members knew ANYTHING about it. Most of the crew did not even know it was there or what it was.

Does anybody know the story behind why this is in Meridian or anything else about it?

if i were to guess. it's because the Falcon is "the stuff dreams are made out of"....

Catherine Williams, the director of entertainment memorabilia at Bonhams auction house told the UK Times, 'This statue is the greatest film prop ever, not only because of its central role in the film but also because of what it symbolized.

'In the last scene of the film, Humphrey Bogart’s character Sam Spade says the statue is ‘the stuff dreams are made of’ - and that summed up cinema at the time.'

Definitely intriguing, OP!

the connection is that the Falcon is iconic....Americana, if you will....and a nice, subtle reference which adds layers to the experience. Much like the skeletons with the unwinnable chess game on Pirates of the Caribbean. That is, assuming I am correct and not just some blowhard pseudo-intellectual who overthinks everything.............

I see what you are saying; and I agree with the idea. I just think there are LOTS of Disney properties that could have accomplished the same thing.

I love the skeletons in the unwinnable game and all of the details that Disney puts in things. That is what drew me to this!

Also you can be a blowhard pseudo-intellectual who overthinks everything AND still be correct. :) I personally fit into this category myself!

I just watched the movie again last week and was thinking that I'd like a Maltese Falcon of my own. I wouldn't pay millions for it, though. I'm thinking $50. sounds good.
