Can someone describe the activities that take place in the evening at Mallory Square? We have early seating on our April cruise, would we need to skip our regular dinner seating if we wanted to catch the events, or do they go on well past sunset? Is it even worth skipping our regular dining rotation? We will actually be in Key West on Easter Sunday, I'm wondering if anything would be different since it will be a holiday? Any info would be greatly aprreciated!

We hae vacationed in Key West for at least 15 years and have enjoyed many sunset celebrations and when we were in Key West on the Majic last August, we still opted to stay on Mallory Sq and miss our dinner rotation. We grab a late dinner in Top Siders.

Each year there seems to be some new activities, but one of the regulars is the Cat Man. Our family has been enjoying for 15 years and my daughter who was 11 last summer when we were on the Magic, still enjoyed his act very much.

There are vendors who sell and other acts. Sometimes there is a band playing in the Square. I have never been to Key West for Easter, but I would think that this is a popular time, so they may have extra activities lined up.

There is a local paper, called the Key Noter, it usually lists activities for the week. Perhaps their web site may have some info for you prior to your sailing.

Any way, have a great time.

Hi Mouseclick1,

Welcome to the Easter Cruise, Please goto the links above "Cruise meets". There is a thread there for our cruise and Leilani is trying to set up a DIS meet in the Walt Suite.

So far there are about 10 other DIS families that have posted on that thread. LeiLani has made a excel spread sheet with names meal times and ages for the kids.

Maybe we'll see you there. Again welcome aboard.

As far as your question, this is the first Western cruise we've been on so its all new to us also.

We had dinner and made a dash off the ship afterward. We say Dominique (Cat Man) and had a long talk with him after the show about our cats. Half way through his performance (he was located right at the front of the ship) the sunset and the Magic blew it's horn. Everyone cheered.

DH and I had been there several times before but it was DS's first time. We had to literally drag him to Mallory Square but he enjoyed Dominique so much he watches the video constantly.

There are lots of other performers (think of it as a circus). Some of the ones I remember from the past were a sword swallower, a fire juggler and a guy who balances stuff on his chin (i.e. shopping cart and bowling balls).

You really should give yourself the evening to see it all.

Thanks, everyone! I found a website that gives the sunset times, and the official sunset time in Key West for that day is 7:48pm. If we do eat in the dining room right at 6, does that give us enough time to get to Mallory Square, or should we just skip dinner and eat at Topsiders after it is over? BTW, how long do the activities continue once the sun finally sets?

KennyK-
Thanks, but I am already signed up! Looking forward to meeting all the DISers onboard!:boat:

I would skip Dinner and order room service or eat at Topsiders. you don't want to miss the sunset it is spectacular:sunny: They also have great Key lime daquiris at the vendors along Mallory square.

It sounds like such an interesting evening. Does the ship not have a major show going on this evening, so we wont miss it. I do NOT want to miss Hercules or the Golden Mickeys.

I have a question about this, I had planned to watch the sunset from the ship because we will be in KW on July 4th and I imagine the crowds will be ridiculous. Anyone been there July 4th?

Hi this is Shirley and an ol' conch (KONK) from Key West - it appears anymore that is never a "good" time to either be on a ship, at Mallory Square, or somewhere else on the island for the sunset cermonies. the acts that are preformed there at Mallory Square do change and the longest act has been the Cat Man -
They have been having to paid the City to preform there so they are very pushy about donations - they do not stay after the sun goes down - it gets late and then getting out can be touchy for everyone seems to want to get out at the same time - I have gone and almost always just go over to Messon De Pepe's and listen to the spanish band there - too Messon De Pepe's has so much history about Key West - it is fun for me and Norm to go in there (tho Norman most of the time refuses to go down to that part of Duval Street) and just remember "waay back when?" -

You can check out anything you want to know by going to our local paper called the Key West Citizen and now also known as the Keynoter -
I still offer those Key West packets that are no cost to you except the large manilla envelopes, self addressed and with about $3.50 worth of stamps attached -
Anyhow you will have a good time in Key West - just watch those Tee Shirt shops for they will get ya real good if you are not careful. It is a proven fact.
anyhow everybody have a great week.
Always
Shirley

How long does it take to walk from Mallory Square back to the ship? We switched from early to late seating today, and was wondering if we would make it from Mallory Square back to the ship in time for dinner after the sunset? I don't mind eating at Topsiders or room service if that's the way it works out, but it would be nice to eat in the dining room considering it will be Easter!

The ship docks right at Mallory Square. When you get off the ship you're there.
