Exactly advice that you might consider following.

Minors can indeed be restricted if they do not have an adult present with them.

Have you found a supreme court ruling that states otherwise?

The one case mentioned in this thread--never made it to a conclusion in court since the mall backed off of their policy. So to say it has been "declared" unconstitutional isn't accurate unless you can produce a court case that states that banning unaccompanied minors is indeed unconstitutional.

You might even consider looking up the law that prohibits age discrimination to see the precise problem with you "opinion" that really is not a fact.

1. - I work full-time so it is rare that she will talk me into going to any store when I finally get home at night. That leaves weekends.

I dunno...teenagers grow up to be adults and then they are able to go when they want. Black people couldn't change the color of their skin. We impose restrictions on minors ALL the time. By your logic, we should allow them to drink, smoke and drive because it would discriminatory to not allow them to do so.

Where do you all suggest that teens DO hang out? Not (necessarily) being snarky, I really am wondering (looking for suggestions, in fact.)

My kids go to the mall (during allowed hours) otherwise they go to movies, other friends' houses, we have a fun bowling alley/arcade near our house, high school football/basketball games. Our kids never lack for things to do, but then again, I was never their cruise director so they had to find things to entertain themselves from a young age

The courts have found the issue to be the same. It is illegal to discriminate based on age in America. Maybe you should brush up on the Constitution...

Sorry, but age discrimination does NOT apply to minors. Minors can't hold jobs except under very specialized rules, they can't vote, they can't drink, they can't enter legal contracts. Basically, minors have no rights under the constitution.

Minors are discriminated upon regularly and legally.

Funny how Mall of America has had this policy for 14 years.

But it isn't discriminatory for a private business to restrict access to unaccompanied minors.

I would say if she is old enough to go to the mall by herself on a Friday or Saturday night, then she is old enough to ease some of your weekend burdens so that she might get her shopping privileges in the daytime.

Inconvenience is not a characteristic of discrimination.

Oh please, our kids are busy too. We work full time too. If they need to go to the mall to buy something, we plan it out. We have never had a problem getting to the mall when needed. So what do you do when you drive her to the mall, sit in your car while she shops? Again, minors don't have any right under the law and this is NOT discrimination in any way, shape or form.

I can't go sign up for the kids activity that is limited to 12 years of age and younger, no matter how much I kick, scream or cry foul that my constitutional rights are being violated.

Shoot--The Neverland Club sounds like lots of a fun, darn it--I want to go!!!!!!!!!!!! Time to call an attorney (who will likely consider me obtuse and refuse to take on such a ludicrous case).

That's correct - it is legal, but it is also discriminatory, just legal discrimination. To use a current example, consider Augusta. It is one of the most prestigious country clubs in America, and it hosts the Masters golf tournament every spring. Black members are not allowed.

Legal? Yes. Discriminatory? You bet your behind it is...
