A couple things before my little review. I read Shaun and Craig's review, chuckled and moved on with life.
I'm a die hard Disney fan. I love it all - even if I don't think it's all "perfect". Also worth noting, because it's a large part of my review - I LOVE to read, more than I love movies, but this goes for both - a huge pet peeve of mine is when I'm reading or watching and I'm 100% absorbed by the story, then something out of context (or some other good word) happens and kicks me out of the story. I'm back to seeing the pages of the book or the frame of the screen. I've lost my place in the fantasy, I'm not part of that world anymore.
I hate that.
So...
My husband planned a surprise date night for us - maleficent at 6:15. Even though I had read the review, I was excited to see the movie myself.
I tried to watch with an open mind and become absorbed in the story. But every time I was into it, something absurd happened and kicked me back out of the story. (Where will I be able to get a floating Prince Charming balloon next time I'm at wdw?)
The reason that I'm disappointed in the movie is because Disney is the master of storytelling. There is no good reason why there should have been so many scenes in the movie that jarred me out of the fantasy. I'm sorry, but I hold Disney movies to a high standard. The reason I do that, is because they set the bar high themselves.
So, yes, I was disappointed in the movie. I think Shaun and Craig wrote great reviews with lots of big movie words. But the point is there - the fantasy didn't grab us and hold us the way that it should have, or could have.

I was also forced to watch Maleficent on Sunday by my wife. Maybe its because of my lowered expectations from all the bad reviews I read, but I didn't think the movie was that bad. That being said I am not one to get excited about every disney or pixar movie that comes out and feel a need to watch it. I'm glad it was only 90 minutes long. I hate how all films nowadays have to be a two and a half hour venture, I hate wasting my whole day at the theatre. Sleeping Beauty was a kids movie, I don't understand why people expected a lot more than just that. If you now as an adult were to go back and watch many of the Disney classics, you'd admit they dont really have much of a deep storyline.

ALTHOUGH... One part of the movie that was terrifying was the CGI faces of the 3 fairies!

Sleeping Beauty is my favourite classic and I just cannot bring myself to go see this movie, silly, but, there we are.

I loved it. I liked the twist on the story. I liked the special effects & the neat critters.

Thanks for your review :-) I actually ended up liking it! I did not want to see it at all because I wasn't buying Angelina Jolie as Maleficent and the previews did not look to great. Then the reviews came back and were not favorable. But then random Disney fanatics were saying it was really great. It was a rainy afternoon and the reclining seats at the movie theater were sounding like a good idea, so we decided to go see the movie. I loved it! The only scene I thought could have been done better, which was an important one, was when she lays the curse on Aurora. I thought the king was cheesy and the way she modifies the curse was as well. But besides that, I thought it was beautifully made and well acted. A definite step-up from Once Upon a Time production!

I absolutely loved it. I'm getting tired of being made to feel guilty about it. Not here, but other places. I don't care if you didn't like it, so why should you care if I did? Sometimes, I just don't understand people.

...those three fairies, however, were just awful

What I have noticed is that the podcasts tend to focus on all the negative aspects of the disney world in the podcasts. It would be nice to talk about something positive about disney sometimes. It feels like I'm listening to the complaint dept at walmart sometimes. You attract more flies with honey than vinegar. This is a comment towards the show as a whole not any one person.
