A couple things before my little review. I read Shaun and Craig's review, chuckled and moved on with life.
I'm a die hard Disney fan. I love it all - even if I don't think it's all "perfect". Also worth noting, because it's a large part of my review - I LOVE to read, more than I love movies, but this goes for both - a huge pet peeve of mine is when I'm reading or watching and I'm 100% absorbed by the story, then something out of context (or some other good word) happens and kicks me out of the story. I'm back to seeing the pages of the book or the frame of the screen. I've lost my place in the fantasy, I'm not part of that world anymore.
I hate that.
So...
My husband planned a surprise date night for us - maleficent at 6:15. Even though I had read the review, I was excited to see the movie myself.
I tried to watch with an open mind and become absorbed in the story. But every time I was into it, something absurd happened and kicked me back out of the story. (Where will I be able to get a floating Prince Charming balloon next time I'm at wdw?)
The reason that I'm disappointed in the movie is because Disney is the master of storytelling. There is no good reason why there should have been so many scenes in the movie that jarred me out of the fantasy. I'm sorry, but I hold Disney movies to a high standard. The reason I do that, is because they set the bar high themselves.
So, yes, I was disappointed in the movie. I think Shaun and Craig wrote great reviews with lots of big movie words. But the point is there - the fantasy didn't grab us and hold us the way that it should have, or could have.
