I have been trying for ages to make a cd of all our photo's but keep hitting problems.

First I used a programme I already had for editing camcorder footage, Pinnacle Studio 9.4 but it didnt work properly, couldnt add music then crashed pc when burning to cd so Gavin bought Photo Story 3 for Windows which he was convinced would work but it doesnt! Again we couldnt add music and when we did it crashed!

It would appear that there was something wrong with the music side but we have tried adding it in different formats and from different sources and nothing has worked!

If you make your own photo cd's what programme do you use?

A lot will depend on the "power" of your computer. Pinnacle is notoriously power hungry and I would recommend at least a 2 ghz Pentium 4 processor with 1 gb of RAM. Also, Pinnacle v9 was renowned for crashing. Check what transitions you have. Using too many of the more basic one's will also make your PC crash. :badpc:

When you're adding music, what source do you use. I have found that if you use MP3 then this also causes problems. Always use an uncrompressed file straight from a CD.

I'm afraid I don't know about photo story 3, but the Video editing programme that comes with XP (Microsoft Movie Maker) does a damn good job with photos. :thumbsup2

I have had really good luck with ProShow Gold. It gives you the ability to add music, titles, menus, and several different formats (dvd's, cd's, run off computer and others that I can't remember. They do have a free trial the only bad thing about the trial is I think it puts proshow across the middle of the screen but it does let you try it. http://www.photodex.com/products/proshow/

Good Luck,
Chris

Thanks Guys!

I will show this to Gavin then he can decide what to do

i have used Microsoft Movie Maker which comes with XP
easy to use and came out quite good was able to put titles on as well

I absolutely love Ulead Pictureshow 4. I have made our 1200 pictures from our last trip into a DVD slideshow with music. I managed to download a whole lot of WDW music off of the internet, and then matched it to certain pictures - so I have Lion King music playing when the pictures of Festival of the Lion King are showing, safari music for Kilimanjaro, Hawaiin music for pictures of the Polynesian etc....etc.... I even managed to get the Mickey Mouse wake-up call downloaded :goodvibes

You can also add special effects and transition effects, add chapters and themes - there are so many features.

We just downloaded the ProShow trial and it seemed to work just fine until we tried to watch it in our dvd player, absolutley nothing happened!

Gavin has gone to have a go by himself to see what happened but after using 3 different programmes I am a bit fed up and if Gavin cant make this work I dont think I can be bothered trying anything else!

Im pretty sure Nero 7 can do it, and also theres some program I recall called "memories on dvd" or "memories on tv" (or similar).
Personaly I stream them wirelessly to my TV using my XBOX running XBMC, but im guessing thats not much help to you.
You could check google, they have some free software called Picasa which looks pretty good, cant recall if it had any options to put on cd/dvd though.

I use Ulead 9, Power DVD or Nero. I bought Ulead to use with my camcorder but I have used it for putting my photos on dvd. You can put them into chapters with different music for each one. The same with Power producer etc (that one came with my pc). I tend to use Ulead to get them with the music then use Nero for burning as it has a better selection of templates. :)

I use photoshow..
ITs so great.. you can add captions and speech bubbles and music etc..
and swinging monkeys etc! It really is fun to use and to watch afterwards!
