Making Reservations

We just bought into DVC this past March. I am still somewhat confused about banking points and then making a reservation. We believe that our first trip back will not be until December 2003. We need to decide what to do with this years points - probably bank them by August 31. If we do bank them, can we make a reservation at either of our 11 or 7 month windows using points from 2002 and some from 2003 depending on where we decide to stay and what size accomodations we want? First off, make sure you bank your points by the deadline. I don't know what your use year is, but if you're not using your 2002 point allotment, you will need to bank them soon.

Once you bank them into your 2003 use year, then you can use them for a reservation in 2003. When calling MS in January (at the 11 month mark for December ressies), tell them you want to use up your banked points first. MS normally does this but it never hurts to remind them. Before you get off of the phone, confirm the status of your banked points and your 2003 points.

Also, don't forget to bank whatever 2003 points you don't think you'll need! I put the banking deadlines on my electronic calendar with reminder notifications beforehand!

When you bank your points, be sure to write and keep safe the confirmation number they give you. This is your only "proof" of banking should any problem arise (chances are it won't).

Banking and making reservations are two different things. You can always make reservations within the 11/7 month windows. You will need to have points available at the time of your stay.

Once you bank points, you can't move them back. But, if something came up and you really needed a trip before your next Use Year starts, you can "borrow" from the upcoming year.
