Long story (some already know): Three months after getting married my new husband moved across country to do his PhD. He tries to come home every 4 to 6 weeks, but it has been really hard on us both emotionally and financially. Early on, I said something horrible. I was hurting and lonely and told him I wished we hadn't gotten married. I didn't mean it. I learned that the only thing worse then saying something to hurt someone is watching them take the blame.
Anyway, since then he has brought up the idea of a small, private vow renewal to "start again." I have been very resistant because I'm just not big on vow renewals at all (just a personal thing). He's thrown out many ideas such as a Disney renewal, going to England to re-marry in the church my grandparents were married in... He even sat me down to say it's really important to him to do this. (I think it's the second thing he's ever asked for in 12 years. The first was colored Christmas lights on the tree rather then white.
)
So my plan at this point - contingent on my contract being renewed for next year - is to surprise him in August. If everything works out, we're taking a trip in August to celebrate him moving home. I plan to tell him how sorry I am for saying something I never meant and asking him to please marry me again. Then I'll surprise him again by having a small VR planned. I'm not telling anyone in the "real" world, but I wanted to tell someone.
My husband is a history buff with a special interest in ancient Rome. I got this ring for him, because you can't ask someone to marry you without a ring, right? It's an ancient bronze Intaglio seal ring from 200 - 300 AD. I have all the paper work for it and I think he'll love it.
