Making friends in VMK

I'm very new to VMK and this board and am just learning the ropes and finding my way around... I've read quite a few threads here trying to learn and have (finally ) finished the easy Autopia Quest, have a dive pin and a space suit! Yay!!! I've played Pirates a few times, but usually get slaughtered by experienced players. I try starting my own games by inviting beginner players, but that approach was only successful once, with some very nice players who didn't immediately blow me to smithereens.

I play fireworks to get some credits... I *think* I went over 2000 once.

But I've been very leery about becoming friends or trading with anyone. Leary about trading because I don't really know the value of anything. And leery about becoming friends because I don't know who these people are and why they are asking to be friends. Maybe I'm being overly cautious... but with all the "are u taken" and other "stuff" that doesn't seem particularly Disney-like, I'm just hesitant.

So... do you just walk up to someone and ask them to be a friend? Do I need to relax a little bit?

The best advice on trading is to start trading on the forums. See what other people offer, and then maybe add just a little bit if its something you really want. Even if you get outbid, you will start to get a gist of what things trade for.

The friends part, just relax a bit. People who just ask everyone are most likely not going to turn out to be your friends. If your just goofing off and find yourself joking with someone that seems nice. Ask, worst that can happen is they say no Also, as you post here you will just naturally start to make friends with some of the DIS people

Don't be too concerned about accepting friend requests. If you later change your mind, it is easy to delete fnames from your list at any time that you want to. You might find that someone you casually accepted a friend request for turns out to be someone you see often in rooms you also enjoy. I know many people don't like ppl sending friend request without asking first. I personally don't mind, if I don't want to accept I will cancel, or leave the request there until later. Also I play player-made quests a lot and often "make a new friend" is a task requirement, I may send out several requests in a crowded public room to get past that task.

As far as trading, I agree, be careful trading until you know the going value, or at least it's value to you. I often read the trade request board, but very seldom bid. It gives me a feel for what certain items are going for. (ie, usually more than i have, lol)

I know most are just people clicking and requesting friends all in the room at times. I usually decline alot of them and will accept if I have spoken with you in the game in some way.
