How do I make a special food request for TS?
I've heard that I have to call the resaurant directly 24 hours in advance.

Has anyone done this? How hard is it to do?

How do they deliver your special meal when you are ready to eat?
A Million?? I know.
I will love to hear an answer to any of them.
Thanks :goodvibes

I would suggest you go over to the disABILITIES Forum where this is a common topic of discussion.

I had the CM make a note of it on my reservation at the time I made it. At each restaurant we dined, the chef (or someone in charge, anyway) came out to our table and asked which of us had the allergy and went over the dining choices. At LTT, the salad came with a strawberry vinaigrette -- the chef asked me what dressing I'd like and made it special for me. At HDDR, my Dad and I (he's also allergic) were served icecream sundaes instead of the strawberry shortcake.

Now, my allergy is fairly easy to avoid. I know that some folks have severe allergies to dairy or wheat or nuts -- I would imagine that it would take a little more strategy on the part of the diner AND the restaurant to assure safety. I just wanted to tell you my experience.

When you make a reservation let them know you have an allergy. Have both wheat and dairy (loads of people think lactose but mine is all diary right down to the simpliest of things like butter, people don't think about or like sherbet most have milk in it). Went to 6 TS restaurants and except for the mexican in Epcot every time the chef came and asked me to confirm the allergy and then they went through the menu with me and my choices, always outstanding. Even the character breakfast at Ohana's I had waffles made specially for me. Desserts are always the hardest and most had a non-diary ice cream style dessert or they would make up a fruit bowl. Even at counter services restaurants near the bakery there are wheat and diary free snacks. So impressed that going back in December and did the DDP again. All you have to do is ask nicely and they will always try to help out.

Sorry wanted to add to one of your questions. Most of my meals came with the families and no longer than normal. The only exception was the Lilo and Stitch Character breakfast but what I got was worth the wait and they made sure I had fruit to eat while I waited for my items. The only restaurant that was not very good in accomodating the food in a timely manner would have been the Princess Storybook Breakfast at the Norway Pavillon, the same people we came in with had got and eaten their food long before we even got ours, so won't be going back to that one.

When making ADRs be sure to have the allergies noted. The CM will give you phone numbers for the various chefs. If you need to make special requests, you should call them at least 48 hrs. in advance. They are used to dealing with the most common allergies (nuts, dairy, wheat, shellfish), but if it's something unusual, it's best to talk to the chefs directly, so they can prepare ahead of your visit.

my husband and i just got back from the dining plan with allergies. All you do is note them at the time of reservation. Dont bother calling the restraunt ahead of time unless you have a really unusual request. When you get there, the waiter will have it noted on your reservation and a chef will come out and speak with you. They will show you everything you can have and thats it. It is prepared in the back and comes out with everyone elses food. I was suprised at how knowledgeable the chefs were. Even at counter service places. All you do is let whoever is taking your order know you need an allergy meal. The chef or manager will come out with a book of everything you can have. Its so easy.

In some cases they will go out of their way - i.e. gluten free pancakes/waffles seem to be pretty easy for them to whip up on a moments notice. But other things they simply can't make effectively and avoid the allergen - I'm gluten intolerant and I don't expect to get the cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier - its made in huge pots and contains flour. So do keep your expectations reasonable. The are good - they can't work miracles.

I did call 48 hours ahead because I have multiple allergies but as long as you can eat fairly standard things they will have on hand they told me I don't really need to call. I usually just get things prepared without sauces for example--getting steak, fish, or chicken grilled was easy at any TS. They will always make sure you have something to eat but you may not get exactly what you want. There were cases where the only nut safe desserts had soy which I'm also allergic to so I got no dessert. For kids I think they are better at getting them desserts.

We are heading back next week with our 2 year old DD who is allergic to Dairy and Eggs. When we go we have it noted on the ADR and then the chef comes and talks to us and prepares her meal him/herself. She is a pickey eater anyway so its usually a grilled chicken breast, hot dog, or pasta so we don't call ahead. I check the menus to make sure they have one of those items on the menu then I know they can just make it plain. Like the PP said, Mexico was the only one where the chef did not come out. I always get very nervous dinning in the countries because of the launguage barrier. I was very nervous eating in Mexico because the waitress didn't speak great English and the chef didn't come out, I had benedryl ready but she was fine so they got it right!
