There is probably a better place for this post but I don't know where it should go. Mods feel free to move if it belongs somewhere else.:)

Ok friends, I need ideas. I have a plan. We are surprising the kids with a trip to Disney the week before Christmas. This is the reveal plan..
Every year we decorate the tree as a family. And every year since birth I give them a new ornament to put on the tree while we are decorating. It's just a fun little tradition that they enjoy. The last few years they've been Disney ornaments. What I am thinking is that I wanted those large-ish glass balls that are Mickey heads that they sell at Downtown Disney. On them I would have "DD's Surprise Disney Trip" with the dates. There would be one for ds too. It wouldn't be unusual for me to be taking pictures or video while decorating the tree so I can get their reactions. My kids will be over the moon.

Here's the issue. Where/How to purchase or make the ornaments?
I could use one of those services that buys things at Disney and ships them to you, but between the order, personalization, and shipping to Canada it would get ridiculous.
Does anyone have any ideas how I could do this myself? I've looked at the Disney store and there doesn't seem to be a Mickey Head that would hold the text I need to write on it, but there may be something closer to Christmas. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.:santa:

How crafty are you? If you are crafty then I would suggest using the foam balls and making your own. Spray paint them in the color you want and then stencil on the words and dates you want.

Well.. I am not very crafty but I can throw something together with instructions no problem. And my sister who got all the family crafty genes could probably tell me what to buy:idea:.
Thanks.. I hadn't thought of the foam balls. And maybe those stiff craft sheets (sort of rubbery) to cut out the ears and glue them on?

Another thought I had.. I saw plastic Christmas balls you could put things in to make your own ornament. Maybe something with those?
I'm sure there's a bunch of ways:)

I thought of the plastic Christmas balls. Then you could put Mickey confetti inside with a note.

I know the directions I was given for the foam balls was to buy one size for the head and another for the ears. Use toothpicks and glue to anchor the ears. I had a customer that made her own Mickey antenna toppers with them. That is how she made them.

Thanks! The Mickey confetti idea is cute too!!
On another note, this surprise is going to kill me. Not five minutes ago we were having brunch and my phone rang. My ringtone is "Under the Sea". The kids started in with "We missss Dissssnneeeeyyyy!!!!" :rotfl:.
This sparked a conversation about when we would go again. So on the fly I said "Maybe October 2014". I almost spilled the beans but dd16 said "This time please make it a surprise."!!!!
This was good because she was the one I had small reservations about surprising because she's 16 and has plans etc. So it prompted a very natural conversation about if I were to surprise her, would she be upset with leaving on short notice. She said absolutely not, and as long as she had one week to tell her teachers and her friends and tie up loose ends she'd be thrilled. I then asked about two weeks notice and she said that was too long and a week would be good.
We've surprised them once before and it was awesome. So now that it's all cleared up and they think it's another year to go.. everything is falling into place;)

Yay!!!!
I have always wanted to surprise my kids but DS is 17 and on the Autism spectrum. He does not do well with surprises like that. DD is only 3 so I haven't been able to surprise her yet. I can't wait to either. I have a ton of ideas too. But we won't be back for a few years. We were going to go next fall but then I decided I would rather buy a camper so Disney will wait another year or two. We have been plenty. It will also give it time for all the new stuff in MK to be completely done and hopefully a bit less crowded.

Go to You Tube and type in How to make Mickey Mouse Ornaments. They have several on there to make. I always buy my daycare a Disney ornament for Christmas. Usually get them after the holiday for next to nothing. But they have not had any on sale this year, so I will be making some. I need about 20 of them.

I made some Christmas ornaments out of my Disney Pez Dispensers. I hot glue some holiday ribbon around the stem, then add a little scarf around the necks.
