Making changes to length of stay?

In the past, I had thought that making a change to a reservation meant essentially cancelling your reservation and making a new one. Which (I thought) meant that if I had to shorten my reservation I would have to potentially let go of any deals/discounts.

However, the reservation system seems to currently have an option to change your stay star and end.

Does that mean if I need to reduce the length of stay I get to keep deals?

You may still not get to keep the deal. The modify a reservation is offered now for guests but just lets the guest basically access the same system booking agents did before. So when you go to modify it may tell you there is no availability for that discount.
