How does one go about making a big change, such as cancelling reservations at one airport for another that is closer (and cheaper)? Is it an easy process or are there some hoops to jump through?

Just go in change flight and pick your new flights. Very easy.

What about making changes if the fare goes down - wanting to keep the same exact flight but price is lower so wanting to take advantage of that? Do you risk losing the flight you want while doing that? I did switch a couple years ago, but I think I talked to someone from the airlines and did it that way. I know I can do it online, but don't wanna risk anything and just not sure how it works, lol! TIA! :)

When you search to change, it will only show flights that are available. It doesn't cancel a spot until you pick another flight. I've never dealt with a scenario of having the price drop and wanting to book the same flight though.

It's very simple. Just do a change request, but pick the same flight. Of course, you won't get money back, but your itinerary will have a credit that will be good a year from the time you originally booked the flight.

Oh, that is great to know, TY! I like knowing what I'll need to do ahead of time. I'm very hopeful for lower anniversary sale prices, so I guess we shall see in June! Luckily, I used points, so I like that much better than having to get a credit! I still have one return trip ticket to get. I used points for the first three, and after my closing date on SW cc in a few days, I'll have more in my acct to use and will buy that 4th last ticket I need. Of course, hopefully it doesn't go sold out or go up too much, though holding steady so far, lol!
