Making ADRs before Free Dining

I'm hoping someone can help, I haven't been able to find the answer to this question. We are planning a trip in either late Sept or the last week of Oct of this year. I want to go ahead and book our room ahead of my 180 day date so I can book my ADRs. I'm also hoping that we will end up getting free dining, but I know that may happen well after my 180 date.

My question is, will my ADRs stay the same if I go from no dining plan to adding a free dining plan? How is that handled in the case of an ADR that is pre-paid? Would it be difficult/impossible to get a refund so that I could use the dining plan instead of paying for it? Also, if I had to change my room/resort to get the free dining, could I keep my ADRs, or would I have to start over?

I know this is all hypothetical since there's no way to know for sure about free dining, but I think there is a decent chance based on past years. If we don't get free dining though, we won't pay for a dining plan and we will do fewer character and TS meals.

Thank you!

They will. ADRs do not require dining plans.

If you do not have a dining plan, you will have to provide a credit card and prepay. When you dine and pay with DDP, they will refund the prepayment.

Yes. They'll refund it when you dine, not before, unless you are able to cancel and rebook the ADR.

If you are inside 180 days, your ADRs will hold. People staying off-site can make ADRs, as can locals. They are not tied to reservation, save for the ability to make reservations at 180+length of stay.

Thank you so much!!! Not only did you know the answers, they were the ones I was hoping to hear :-).
