Instead of wrapping gifts, I was going to put them in two large sacks for the kids. I can't seem to find big enough ones though at a reasonable price. Has anyone made one, if so, can you share pics? Also, if it doesn't involved much sewing that would be great since I only have the little kid sewing machine LOL

Sorry, I have never made one myself. Have you looked at Bed Bath & Beyond? They had some nice large sacks for about $5.99 each. They came in solid red and solid green, it had some writing on them but don't remember what they said. HTH

Do you know what they are made of?

you could use bike bags in a pinch, but c'mon and at least wrap a few for the thrill of the rip!!

I think it is some type of felt like material. I do not remember as my DN bought it for me and her cousin is doing some embrodery work on it.

The paper store had some really cute ones.... made of heavy cotton and decorated as a santas face.

How big do you need? Could you use red and green pillowcases (even if you needed more than one), tie with a pretty ribbon. You could even decorate with fabric paint markers w/ child's name or whatever you want.

I'm looking for something that can be used throughout the years. They have other wrapped gift from out of state family under the tree, so I don't think anyone would miss lack of paper if I go this route.

We don't have a Paper Store. Pillowcases would be too small

I'lll check BBB, thanks, but if anyone has actually made one I'd still like to see pics :)

I think they would be pretty easy to make. You would just have to sew up the sides, then fold down a hem at the top. You could either put a draw-string in the top or just tie them closed. You might be able to find Christmas fabric on sale now, or if you wanted to wait one more year, you could get cheap fabric after the holiday.

Around here, Joann's has Christmas fabric on at least 50% off now. They don't tend to have much after the holiday, so buying sooner is better.

I would make essentially a larger version of a pillowcase to fit the size you need, then tie with a ribbon.

If you want to use fabric and don't want to sew here are a couple of solutions:

Buy enough fabric that you can sit the gift in the middle of it and just pull it up all around and tie at the top. OR

While you are at JoAnns pick up some fabric glue. Fold a rectangle of fabric in half and glue along two sides. Don't worry about a drawsting - just tie the top with colorful yarn.

Good luck!

I saw a very large red fabric bike bag at OS Job Lot, but I'm not sure if you have those stores near you.

You can easily sew one but I switched to a blanket. Bought $4 snugglie blankets at Walmart just pull the sides up around the toys and tie with a cloth ribbon it to a bow (Don't make a knot you need to cut). Print off a name tag on your printer with cute christmas font and your good to go. My girls love getting a new blanket and use them all year long.

You can also buy character pillow cases if the kids are still small.

Edited to add the blankets from walmart we in the holiday gift section not sure if they still have them, but you could use fleece character blankets or just fleece from the sewing store.

If you buy the fleece it does not need to be hemmed as fleece does not ravel, you can fringe as desired.

I bought Santa sacks for my kids at Kids Pottery Barn. I had their names monogrammed on them. Looks like they are on sale now for $19.99. It may be too late to get them for this Christmas but worth it for years to come. great quality and they are super cute !

There are several ways you can sew them, depending on how you want to tie them closed.

yard to yard 1/2 material. If you want a draw string fold over 1/2 inch on each side and sew. Fold over top about 4-5 inches and sew. Sew up another inch toward top this gives a channel for a draw string or ribbon. Place right sides together. sew bottom then up along side until you get to draw string channel. If you want to square off the bottom match up the side seam with the opposite side so when you fold it out you have to make two triangle at the bottom to flatten neatly. Sew accross the triangle about 4-5 inches in on each triangle. You will have that extra material from the triangle at the bottom but I just leave it instead of cutting it off. Turn right side out and good to go.

I prefer the blanket from santa because if I am going to use it year after year how do the sacks get back to santa? My kids would ask.

I always make loot sacks for the neices and nephews to bring all the things home from the family functions.

A couple of years ago I got big bags made out of felt at Big Lots. I think they came in red or green and maybe had some embellishment. Sorry, I can't recall for sure since I gave them away. Of course, with Big Lots, you never know if they'll carry them again, but it might be worth a call.
