making a ressy with another DVC family; detailed question

I'm hoping I can get a clear picture on this question/scenario we're pursuing.

We're looking to make a ressy at the Treehouse Villas for January 2010, with friends of ours who are also DVC. Our home resort is SSR so we have the option to make the ressy right now. The total points for our stay is 152, and we're going to split it, 76 points per family.

Our use year begins each June. Our June 2008 use year is gone and we have a small amount of points left on our June 2009 use year. I initially thought I'd have to wait until June 2009 to make the reservation, to be eligible to borrow from our June 2010 points. However, CS advised that we could make this ressy now.

Here's my question -- since I can make this ressy now, and since our friends can transfer their 76 points to us (one transfer a year allowed between members I understand), does it matter *when* they transfer their points to us? In other words, if they transferred points to us this month or next, would those 76 points be considered part of our June 2008 Use Year? Should I wait until June 2009 for them to transfer their points to us, so the points are added to our June 2009 Use Year??

And can these points transferred to us be banked (depending on what use year we get them) ?

Does the Month of our friend's Use Year matter?

The points transferred in are supposed to retain their original resort and UY designation so it will depend on what UY your friends use to transfer the points. I would have them transfer the 2009 points and then you can use them or bank them into 2010 if you need to.

The month isn't really too critical - any month will work as long as the 2009 points are transferred into your 2009 Use Year. While 2008 points could be transferred into your account, you will have additional time to use the points (yes, they may be banked after being transferred) by banking them - so I'd see if they can transfer points from their 2009 Use Year.

You can only book 7 months in advance with your friends points because they are BCV points. You could book the whole reservation with your points, (if you have enough) and get the BCV points for your use later.

The transferred points retain their UY and home resort. After the transfer, you will own 76 BCV points with a Feb 09 UY. You can confirm with MS that they are in your account, but you will not be able to "see" them online until they are actually used to make a reservation.

If you want to use them for a stay after Jan 2010, you will need to bank them 4 month prior to expiration, which I believe is Sept 30, 2009. If you bank them, they can then be used for a stay between Feb 2010 and Jan 2011.

You can use them to book BCV at the 11 month mark and any resort at the 7 month mark. Best of luck -- Suzanne
