We just got back from an 8 days stay at Saratoga Springs Resort! It was wonderful!!!! I traded points with a guy I met on the trade board on this site. It was a great transaction!!

Anyway, we are really considering buying into AKV. My question is should we buy straight from DVC or purchase a resale (at SSR)? And, how do I get the $15 per point off? The price we got was 160 pts. for $16,640.00. I just want to make the best decision. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks -

The incentive right now for AKV is either:
1) $8 off per point ($104-$8 =$96/point)
or
2) doubled developer points (would be 320 on a 160 point contract). these are bonus points that must be used within 7 months and cannot be banked.

:)
Good Luck making your decision!

When I was offered the DVC pitch at WDW two weeks ago as a new member, I was offered $8/pt off of $104 for AKV and $10/pt off of $104 for SSR. It looks like the price you were quoted doesn't include any incentive - I would look into that. The prices I was quoted (for 160 points) would give you a total of 15,360 for AKV and 15,040 for SSR, plus SSR included 160 bonus developer points upfront. We went with AKV despite the deeper SSR incentives because the contract has three more years and we just like AKV more.

Did you attend an open house while at WDW? That was where we were offered the incentive. If you call, express interest, but tell them you know other people recently got these incentives, I bet they'll offer them to you (especially if you tell them that you just got back from WDW).

I wouldn't go with resale for either of these resorts.

The $8 off is the incentive (you are only paying $96 rather than regular price of $104. You have a choice of that incentive or 320 developer points up front (on a 160 point contract).

The 160 pts is what stops me re AKV if that number of points is what you need for your vacation plans then contact DVC and ask for the AKV sales package. They will send you the Dreams book and a letter to return giving DVD authority to contact regarding a real estate transaction (at least here in Texas they did that - Calif I think they have some issue with a direct contact for some reason)

SSR I look hard at the resale listings posted by the board sponsor links at the top of the page and others some of them are at least as good as the DVC offer some a little better $3 to $5 per point leass after closing costs are factored in and many are available for around 100 to 160 points on the resale market

A good reason to go the resale route is because you want smaller number of points. I like the idea of 2 small 100-point contracts at 2 different resorts and with the bank/borrow strategy, alternate my family's stay at the 2 different resorts.

If you want AKV, why would you purchase SSR?

Here is how I look at the incentives that they have in place:

Purchase 160 at AKV and take the double developer points.

You get 480 points, which you can rent out for $10 a point.

$4800

effective price of $11,840 or $74 a point. Lower than any resale on any on site property.

Plus you get 49 years at a much more desireable resort (IMHO), taking into account the first year that you rent out.

Even if you use the first year, you are paying $84 a point.

Seems like a winner for akl.

I just added 200 on myself.
