I've been to disneyland 100 times, but this is the first time we're celebrating a bday (my daughter's 7th). Aside from getting her a button, what else can we do to make it special? We're staying at Grand Californian and will be at the parks for three days. Thanks!

We're going on our first family trip to DL at the end of May and my oldest and youngest (who share a birthday) will turn 6 and 3 while we are there. I was thinking we'd do Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Ariel's Grotto for breakfast or lunch on their birthday but haven't planned much beyond that :) Following this for more ideas!

You can buy birthday packages at the hotels and have them delivered to your room. They have various options.

I would definitely schedule a character meal, which would depend on her preferences (Princesses vs. regular Disney characters). We did one of the Disney caricature drawings for dd on the birthday (she was 5 and wore her Cinderella dress). She still has that framed and up on her wall (she's 14 now).

Like man....why do I keep reading making a baby special?
Lol

I am taking my son in Feb for his 7th bday..I am thinking of saying "yes" to whatever he asks (within reason of course). We are quite strict, so I think he would fall over if I said he could have ice cream for dinner, haha!

Character meals are fun, and the server will bring out a dessert with a candle at dessert time [free] ... it's a little weird that a character doesn't do it, but I guess then it would be Everybody's birthday every day! Since they don't make a huge deal out of birthdays (though the characters get excited when they see a birthday button), I wouldn't bother with the time suck or expense of a character meal unless it's the way your kiddo wants to spend the day.

We always take candles and a lighter and light up whatever treat the birthday kid is enjoying at an opportune moment and sing Happy Birthday.

On birthday morning in the hotel they wake up to balloons all over the bed, a couple of small presents, and Happy Birthday with a candle in a donut or whatever.

ETA I noticed you're staying at GCH. Make sure that her bday is listed on your reservation. They will give her a celebration folder with bday button, character photo, stationery, etc. -- basically a fancy version of what they give all the kids at check in.

We did the birthday celebration in the room when my daughter turned four. They put a banner on the door and footsteps through out the room and then HUGE boxes filled with presents from all the characters on the bed. Balloon bouquet And another banner on the window. She freaked out!! It was great and memorable.....but pricey

If you make any dining reservations mention that you will be celebrating the birthday. Many times they will bring out a cupcake with a candle for dessert. One thing I did for my friend was order an in-room package. The one I got had an autograph book and Mickey Ears for her.
