Not too sure where to ask this so I thought the Transportation board would be a good place to start. We are going to the World in September for Food and Wine. The day we get in we are planning on going to Party for the Senses at Epcot. I do not want to put on makeup before we head to the airport because we have to be at the airport at 4 AM for a 6 AM flight and I know we will not get our luggage in time before we have to go to Epcot.

So my question is this, the majority of my makeup is in powder form since I use mineral makeup. Do I have to put it in my quart sized baggie for the TSA since it is not a liquid, gel or cream? Or should I have my dad carry it in his carry on since he doesn't carry on his toiletries?

Powders do not have to be put into your quart bag. Just gels & liquids.

I've found also that chapstick and lipstick do not qualify as gels or liquids or any such form, though I thought they might...

But I got through security just fine with them in my bag, no probs!

Solid lipsticks and balms, and solid deodorants, are not considered gel or liquid.

Powder makeup isn't liquid either and can be carried outside the baggie.

OP thanks for posting this. I was going to ask but keep forgetting. I love the mineral makeup- we are checking bags but I want to have it with me just in case a bag gets lost!:goodvibes

Mascara is a liquid in the eyes of the TSA! (Yes, folks I am going to attack with a mascara wand LOL!)

Can you still get the cake mascara, which wouldn't be a liquid? I don't wear mascara, so I haven't looked lately. It might not be as high tech as some of the tube kinds, but it would do the job in a pinch if your 3-1-1 bag is a little full.

I got a really small mascara at Macys in their make up counter. It is one of those little sample ones and are fantastic for travel! Only about 3" or so.

Simply put...powder is powder, gel is gel and liquid is liquid. Only gels and liquids present an issue. Powder makeup, cake makeup is fine. If it is liquid foundation, then it's a liquid. If it's a gel blush, then it's a gel.
Not to sound harsh, but it's common sense. Any liguid or gel type substance has to be less than 3 oz and put in that qt. baggies. Otherwise, put it in your checked luggage.

how bout nail clipper, nail scissors? I would think they were not allowed. I am just going thru my purse as we leave on Friday and I have a little bag with stuff like that in it so thought I would ask:confused3

Nail clippers are fine but they may want to look at the scissors.

How about pins ? I'm only doing carry-on for this trip and I was wondering about my son's Disney pins ... :confused3

Have you tried the TSA site? It's pretty complete as to what you can bring and what you can't bring onboard.
Disney pins are fine in a carryon.

From the TSA website:

Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades shorter than four inches in length. Yes (carry-on) Yes (checked)

I wanted to take my knitting bag on the plane with me in May and my DH insisted that they wouldn't let me take knitting needles, so I checked the TSA website, and not only are knitting needles fine, but so are scissors! The bag went through security without a second look.

Here's the link to what you can and can't take - it's very interesting!

From our own experience, the scissors are not allowed. My step mom always carried around a small sewing kit that was her mothers, that had her sewing scissors in it, and they made us throw them out right there on the spot. We begged them to please send them in the mail to us or hold them until we flew back into CVG but no such luck.
