Makeup/cosmetics samples and/or returns?

I have been using products like Revlon and Oil of Olay - things you can buy at any drugstore. I am thinking I want to splurge a little and upgrade, especially my moisturizer/sunscrreen. But I really don't want to spend a lot of money on a product that I end up not liking.

So I am wondering, which stores or cosmetics counters offer samples, and which are good about returns? I have read about peole getting samples from Sephora, but I never even been in that store, so and and all advice welcome.

Macys cosmetic counters usually give a 10 day sample of foundation, sometimes they'll give you other samples to try but that seems to be dependent on the counter or even the employee. They have a good return policy though.

I get a ton of samples from Sephora simply by asking a salesperson! I was trying to find a good BB cream so they gave me samples of 3 different brands. I'm so glad I was able to try them before buying. I discovered I do not like BB creams at all.

I too have gotten 3 different samples from Sephora for BB creams...and I don't like BB creams either! However, Sephora will even give you perfume samples. I have very sensitive skin so I always get a sample to try prior to purchasing any cosmetics and perfumes.

I've also gotten perfume samples from Nordstroms.

I like that Macys runs sales and you can often get a little cosmetic bag of goodies with a reasonable purchase.

This is called a gift with purchase and all major department stores will do this at various times of the year. The cosmetic line is the one who works this out with the department store.

Most of your major brands will take back used bottles of foundation, lotions etc. It is part of their guarantee. So whichever major department store you purchase it from is required to take it back. It is part of the agreement with the cosmetic company.

Sephora is great for giving decent sized samples of anything. Just ask!

They also have a great return policy for all of their products. You can return anything that you've used and decided you didn't like.
