Make this make sense

I let my MK lapse last fall due to a pending surgery and uncertainty about recovery. Thankfully all is well.

Tomorrow I am going to DLR with a 3 day PH. I was reluctantly going to upgrade to an Inspire MK at the end of my 3rd day since I have more trips planned, but really not enough to make a $1600 MK worth it. Well, now the rest are going on sale tomorrow. The whole week is booked for MKs because of spring break, but I have my reservations for my PH so all is well.

I called today to see if I could upgrade tomorrow to the Believe and they said that's fine, but it will cancel all my PH reservations, which I understand. But they won't be able to transfer those reservations to the MK since all the MK slots are booked. I am the exact same person - I already had a reservation so you were expecting me. It won't be increasing park attendance if you let me go in on my MK. It makes no sense at all, and now I'll probably get screwed over and won't be able to buy the Believe pass since I won't be able to upgrade til Thursday afternoon.

Yeah, this is the way they have been handling it from the beginning of implementing reservations even when they introduced the flex pass, and nope it doesn't make any logical sense. What I do believe it may indicate though are any or all of the following: terrible software from Disney (not really a surprise, is it?), continued diminishment of power of decision-making for the front-line CM by higher-ups, and a lack of interest in providing the more premium customer service that Disney used to be known for when merely adequate still keeps the money flowing.

Agreed. It's definitely not the Disney experience we used to know and love. I've been a MK/AP for about 7 years and only let it lapse this last fall - they've definitely gotten their fair share of money from me (and my family who don't have APs and always come on multi day park hoppers).

Disney is thinking about the price per day. If you use your PH, they get $x/day. If you upgrade to a MK, they get a (potentially) much lower price from you per park day (assuming that you come back and use your MK for ANY other days, the value per day of the 3 days you are about to use goes down for Disney). So they don’t want you to get to keep that park reservation. They want to offer it to someone who is paying the full price per day with a day tickets. They limit the reservations per day for MK because they know they are getting less money per park day from the MK user. I don’t agree with it, but you can see that they are simply doing the math. Only option to keep your reservations (unless you want to risk it) is to upgrade on the last day at the end of the day (because if you do it in the morning, the park hopper reservation for the last day is in jeopardy if no reservations are available). But then you risk that the MK you want to upgrade to is not available. Only you can decide which risk you would rather take.
