We had a lovely breakfast at the GF Cafe on our final day using up our last TS credits.

The waitress was just about ok so I added a $9 tip to be charged to the room and this is what happened:

She only gave herself a $900 tip:eek:

She must have thought it was her lucky day:rotfl2:

:scared1::scared1:OMG :scared1::scared1: I take it you got it back??!! x

Was it an error keying in, or did she think thats what you were giving her? x

Yes, it was cancelled....I am sure it was just an honest mistake - she wasn't exactly excited when she brought the ticket back but you never know....maybe she gets some big tips as a matter of course:confused3

Hate to think if it would have gone through though as sometimes I just shove the receipt in my purse.

We had a good laugh though:rotfl2:

Make sure if that does happen the manager is aware of it.

It may be a honest mistake typing 900 rather than 9.00 but you are 1 table, the amanger will soon spot a pattern if she makes these "mistakes" a lot

We once had a $20 tip added to a $9 bar bill at Hurricane Hannas. I don't think it was an honest mistake. I called the desk and had it removed. So yes, you have to pay attention.

Good advice to pay attention to receipts - glad you got it sorted.

have to say i usually tip cash and just write 'cash' on the check.

Oh my - good job you checked this! Yes I'm another one for preferring to give tips in cash. Thanks for the warning though! ::yes::

:thumbsup2 I've always done that on the advice of other DISers :)

Another thing to watch for on your receipts if you have charging added to the room key and are using dining credits, is to make sure that you have been charged credits, not a cash charge to your room. I've had to have this rectified on a number of occasions, but have learnt to check before I leave the cashier so that it can be sorted out immediately.

Nowhere near the scale of the OP's overcharge :faint: but last year we were spending left over snack credits and I saw as I was taking the bags that instead of using snack credits, the cashier had charged our room to the tune of $50 odd. It's much easier to sort out at the time than to have to go back and waste time resolving the issue. Bottom line is, mistakes do happen, most of them honest errors, but nonetheless, your credit card/room key/bank account doesn't know whether it was a mistake. It charges what it is told to :headache:

I check every reciept & every statement I get, hotels, banks, credit cards etc.
A couple of years back I had $10 added to our credit card from Manny's, I almost just ignored it but decided to email incase the server was doing it often. Manny emailed back offering a refund but I told him to give it to charity.
This trip Dollar made a mistake of $43 for a one way rental, into the office to get it removed.
On return home I had a credit card statement waiting for me with a £97 transaction (UScoach.com) which I knew nothing about, I only use the card for business fuel, no personal transactions. I rang them and they sent paperwork to sign, I would have cancelled the cards but they put into compromised mode and rang me when another US transaction tried to go thru at £9.97, they denied it and cancelled cards, just got new.

I have told 5 people about the above, totally shocked 4 of them said they would never know, they just throw reciepts & never check statements so closely to know if £97 extra was on. I know Paul & Lucy on holiday with us threw every reciept they got, either for DDP or credit card purchases. I really can't believe people are so lax with their finances.

Me too, I keep ALL my receipts from everything I spend over there and check my statements when I get home.

I usually do try to leave cash tips at restaurants but I don't always have the right notes -I always keep aside any small notes I get in change for this purpose, but on this occasion I didn't have it ready.
