My husband is getting his knee replaced in the near future. While in Disney, one of the CM saw how difficult it was for him on steps/walking/etc and suggested we go to Guest Services to ensure we got a disabilities voucher. This was the best 30 mins we spent in line. This voucher allowed him to special parade seating, line waits, etc.
But be forewarned, the CM's in charge of the handicap viewing areas for the parades will, on occasion, challenge the validity of the pass. I had to speak with a Supervisor to be allowed this seating area. Keep in mind that there were only 7 other people in this area, so it was not an issue of other's not being able to utilize this area.

That was the Guest Assistance Card (GAC). It helps folks get access to H/P areas and entrances to attractions as well as to wait in a more appropriate place if medical condition warrants it. I'm glad an observant CM clued you into it's availablity. Usually if you "only" have mobility issues and are using an ECV or W/C you don't need a GAC.

Welcome to disABILITIES.
Many people with problems like your DH has choose to use a wheelchair or ecv (motorized scooter). If you use one of those, you will not need a GAC (uless, like Nanajo mentioned, there are additional disabilities).
The reason that the CMs challenge for special seating is that people without a GAC often do try to go into those seating areas. For example, in the parade areas, people want to sit on the benches that are in those areas.
