I am brand new to scrapbooking and have been eyeing the cricut. I got to try one at a crop but wasn't impressed. Maybe she didn't have great cartridges?

Anyway I just watched a video about the gypy. It wasn't too clear. Do you have to draw and design stuff yourself or are there premaid images? I'm not an artist, I can't even draw a decent stick figure! What am I missing and can you convince me I need a cricut? I feel like I'm missing out on something.

Because you can make adorable paper dolls for pages:

(That's just a fun, frivolous answer -- you can cut out a huge variety of words and embellishments in various sizes with it -- or use pens to draw things on your paper, from the available images).

You might want to wander around the community messageboards at cricut.com to see what it does.

You might enjoy the Life's a Beach cartridge (altho it only has one dolphin silhouette and one whale).

I accumulated lots of stickers and chipboard before I got into Cricut, which are now almost "outmoded" (but I still try to use them up).

Until you're sure you're going to be doing a lot of scrapbooking (or card making) as a many years hobby, I doubt that you can justify the expense. It's an expensive addicitive system -- lots of fun, with uses beyond scrapbooking (I decorated my car to make it easier to pick out among all the white vans in the parking lot, wall art, school projects, etc.).

I love my cricut always have always will!!! You don't need a Gypsy ( i had one and I ended up selling it on Ebay for lack of use)
Buy a Cricut you wont regret it!!
Plus you can make stuff for projects other than scrapbooking.
you can make stencils, rubber stamps, and stickers!!

a cricut is a nice toy. I have had mine a year now, and i use it most every weekend. My kids like to use it for their projects. and we vinyl notebooks and most anything.

But with the cricut you are limited to only the images and fonts on a cartridge, and they are expensive!

EXCEPT if you get the unofficial-this will void your warranty-third party software... (but how will they ever know I used third party software if I don't tell them?-they won't) The two software packages are Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) or Make the Cut (MTC). they run about $60-70, the price of ONE cartridge. SCAL or MTC will cut any font on your computer, and most any image you can find on line.

I have SCAL. The SCAL forum is SUPER friendly, and many on their forum share their files for free. Also, there is a slight learning curve to the software. And lots of You Tube videos and blogs to get you starting to learn.

Good luck with your decision!
