Makahiki buffet updates?

Just wanted to check in free our May 2022 visit (and planned May 2024 visit). Has anyone heard any updates on if Makahiki is returning to a breakfast and/or dinner buffet? Would love to have this back, plus room service. Here’s to hoping.

Have not heard about a buffet coming back but the Table Service dinner was an unexpected favorite of our trip. I wish room service would come back as well but Mobile ordering from Off the Hook came pretty close.

I don’t anticipate this coming back. If we’ve learned anything it’s that Aulani does not roll back its penny pinching.

I'm betting that Disney is making a killing off these pre-fixed menus that they've started doing everywhere and there's no turning back to buffets. I mean Hello?! They're charging more and giving less food. With a buffet I'm sure there was a ton of wasted items. This way they have a fixed menu with fewer items / ingredients that they can probably plan quantities easier. We loved Makahiki when it was a buffet too but I am not holding out hope that it will ever return.

Disney has slowly been returning buffets back. Hawaii is months and months and months behind the rest of the country in returning to normal so it may just take much longer. They returned the luau back to buffet from pre fixe so I wouldn't rule it out.

Except….the four seasons next door has had their buffet back for at least a year, and the luau is not run by Disney.

And Disney is also super slow and returning things back, I still say give it time. Granted I’d prefer prix fixe but the breakfast menu is lacking , but we did the buffet once and it was just so so. So maybe it just needs a revamp in general.

I'll agree it's so so. The benefit it has though is for my picky 4 and 6 year old boys who would rather eat a plate piled with sausage and mickey waffles than anything else. We were ordering extra sides of sausage and bacon with the prix fix that added on a sizable cost to the already costly menu. C'mon Disney let's aim for May 2024!

While nobody knows when the buffet will be brought back, if ever, I personally won't miss it. We tried the Makahiki Dinner buffet and while the presentation was beautiful, and the food looks so appetizing, unfortunately the qualify and taste just wasn't there, sorely lacking to match the presentation, that my family was really disappointed in.

But that just mine and my family's opinion. I know others may find the food delicious, and perhaps we experienced different chefs, but we wow not to eat the Makahiki Dinner buffet again. May you have a better experience if it comes back, if that's your wish to try the Makahiki buffet experience.

I’m hoping they bring back the AMA AMA breakfast. We were planning on visiting there on our cancelled 2020 trip to Oahu, and have rebooked for this year. Such a shame that it is only open for dinner now!

I as well. We were lucky to have experienced it in 2016, and it was a good change of pace from Makahiki.

Agree, that breakfast was so yummy.
