Major score on a TV!

Our bedroom TV died and we needed a new one.

We wanted a decent-sized screen, 1080p, 120hz, and a high contrast ratio.


We found a nice 32" Samsung at Best Buy originally $1099.99, marked down to $799.99, with the above specs including 80,000:1 contrast ratio. We thought about it and thought maybe it was too high, so let's try again, because perhaps there will be a sale this weekend.

Then, I remembered to check the open box aisle. We found the exact TV marked down to $699.99 just because the box was missing. (Trust me, my husband is in the technical end of DVD/BluRays, we checked it out all ways to Tuesday.)

So, we had $699.99 to pay. But WAIT! We had $400 in Best Buy gift cards to use! Our company gives us money to carpool and we requested the payments to us in gift cards.

But wait! We had $40 or so left over on a Christmas gift card!

All in all, we spent $349 after taxes and recycling fees and such. (We declined the extended warranty!)

Not only that, but Best Buy has the 30-day price-matching dealio. If I find the TV priced less within 30 days, we get the difference. I will be eye-balling sales this weekend, you can bet on it.

I lucked out last Thanksgiving Holiday and purchased a 42" 1080 Samsung LCD for $799 the week before black Friday. Just for giggles, I went looking at the stores to see what the deals would be, as most stores have ads set up here a week before to show what the "deals" will be. They had the Black Friday items on the store floor, unwrapped and marked with signs. I asked the floor salesman if they could be purchased today, he said that the stores were told to start the sales early because they were expecting consumer spending to be low due to the economy. Hence, I bought a sweet T.V. without the hassle of the lines/fights of black Friday. I might do it again this year just to see what they are willing to sale early this year. Could use some new appliances. Haha.
