Thank you very much for the thread. I've been away from the boards for a while (a cruise in July, although not
DCL) and just came back last night from a week-long stay at Vero (LOVED it!).
Anyway, we booked Dream end of February using our points after reading many posts on these boards. We booked two connecting 6B afts for our family of 4 plus my mother, for a total of 5 people, all on points.
After reading many threads, I first was going to rent my points for $10, pay for the cruise, and be a couple of thousand dollars ahead (yes that is correct) but honestly needed to rent many many points and didn't want the stress or headache.
Then, I was going to put my deposit down and as many suggested, wait closer or for final payment and then pay with points so as not to "tie up" my points in case I wanted to cancel or change my cruise. This too I was a little uncomfortable with since I also own two other timeshares and know that at any point (as we are also seeing with
DVC) perks can be taken away, and that really is all this is, a perk, just like booking outside your resort, or at least that is the way I see it. I LOVED that I was able to just come back last night from a week-long stay at VERO but I don't own there and although I would be very unhappy, I do know perhaps years down the road, I may only be able to book my own resort.
Anyway, when I booked I was under the impression that DCL had an allotment of cabins for DVC and I knew exactly what I wanted and transferred by points. I do hope that others will be able to get the call from the call list and reschedule or have their dates/categories become available.
Got to say, LOVE this board! There must be hundreds of people that are doing the same thing and don't have any idea of what is going on and won't know until final booking. Although I know this is a small community on the dis, I was a little surprised that all the DVC owners I talked to at Vero none had heard about the disboards.
I hope it all works out for everyone and thank you VERY much for starting this thread (and the other one you referenced in the first thread above).
