Thanks for this thread! I'm still not sure what the policy change on this is and why.

I found this thread after DH called today to book us on the Dream using points in Sept 2011 and was told there was no availability! I thought we were really planning ahead!

This is not a policy change. It's lack of availability-DVC has used up the allotment given to them by DCL for Members to use in 2011. We will be able to book cruises again when 2012 is opened, based on availability, so obviously you'd want to book early and be firm with the dates.---Kathy

Thank you very much for the thread. I've been away from the boards for a while (a cruise in July, although not DCL) and just came back last night from a week-long stay at Vero (LOVED it!).

Anyway, we booked Dream end of February using our points after reading many posts on these boards. We booked two connecting 6B afts for our family of 4 plus my mother, for a total of 5 people, all on points.

After reading many threads, I first was going to rent my points for $10, pay for the cruise, and be a couple of thousand dollars ahead (yes that is correct) but honestly needed to rent many many points and didn't want the stress or headache.

Then, I was going to put my deposit down and as many suggested, wait closer or for final payment and then pay with points so as not to "tie up" my points in case I wanted to cancel or change my cruise. This too I was a little uncomfortable with since I also own two other timeshares and know that at any point (as we are also seeing with DVC) perks can be taken away, and that really is all this is, a perk, just like booking outside your resort, or at least that is the way I see it. I LOVED that I was able to just come back last night from a week-long stay at VERO but I don't own there and although I would be very unhappy, I do know perhaps years down the road, I may only be able to book my own resort.

Anyway, when I booked I was under the impression that DCL had an allotment of cabins for DVC and I knew exactly what I wanted and transferred by points. I do hope that others will be able to get the call from the call list and reschedule or have their dates/categories become available.

Got to say, LOVE this board! There must be hundreds of people that are doing the same thing and don't have any idea of what is going on and won't know until final booking. Although I know this is a small community on the dis, I was a little surprised that all the DVC owners I talked to at Vero none had heard about the disboards.

I hope it all works out for everyone and thank you VERY much for starting this thread (and the other one you referenced in the first thread above).

Just wanted to update that I just got off the phone with MS and was able to get our June 2011 cruise on points. It was very limited availability (started with 6a and ended up with 5e; 6a was gone by the time we got the points banked).
When I first called she had indicated that May and June had opened up, but only some categories were available...mostly veranda. There is hope

2012 is open now. We can book cruises TWO years in advance...which is exactly what many people did, exhausting the availability.

Also, anyone reading the few posts on this thread should go over to the main thread because there is MUCH more current info there.

Where are you finding info on 2012? I looked around and coudn't find anything anywhere.
