According to different Disney fan sites, there were major layoffs today at the animation studio in Burbank. Nine veteran animators were given the boot.

But Iger did announce recently that they are -once again - suspending hand drawn animation.
The computer stuff seems to sell fine and it's more cost effective.
I think Disney sunk a fortune into princess and the frog and missed big time on its appeal. And didnt push tangled nearly enough because they thought it was kinda a problem child.
I wonder who was rating the material then? Because tangled was right down the "princess" ally with a little more "big girl" appeal (and had the best song/animation sequence of any movie (non-Pixar) since "a whole new world")...and princess and the frog was a discombobulated mess...
Really?? The Princess and the Frog is probably my favorite princess movie...and as much as I love Tangled, I think the songs are horrible and I really don't like Mandy Moore's voice speaking or singing, so I guess I get annoyed of it pretty easily.
Just my opinions. I guess I just didn't realize people don't like The Princess and the Frog.
And they have cut the hand drawn animation before. It almost went bankrupt in the 80's. The documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty is fantastic and explains it all so well.
Personally, I think the best Disney movies are the hand drawn Disney movies. Maybe because I grew up with them and appreciate them more then computer animated movies. Who knows.
