Major IT blunder

Just because it shows availability doesn't mean its so. I looked a bit earlier today at the RAT. The whole month of June, AKVs-CL wide open. I call and checked on it twice and both times, a no go. Disney IT is a joke.

I assumed 1 room had been out of inventory for maintenance or something and had just been returned. And I assumed people were grabbing days leaving less available. So I wonder what really happened.

IMO, this doesn't qualify as a "Major IT blunder". RAT may or may not be real time. We don't know for sure. Doubt anything actually got booked that shouldn't have, so the "blunder" didn't involve the booking engine. YMMV.

Have to eat some crow here. Was able to call back and book the 18th-20th in one of those rooms! Now the entire month is gone.

Is this a new visit for you, or did you change something?

I changed my whole trip around for this. I imagine I will be able to get the Boardwalk and Poly another time, but not CL at the AKVs. Got one night at the Beach Club in a studio there before these two nights and I am going to try to book one more night at the AKL in a regular resort room for the last day of the trip. I thought that might be good idea since I would be able to use the CL on 18th, 19th, and till midnight on the 20th. Is that right about till midnight on the 20th?

The last offering ends at either 9PM or 10PM so no need to worry about midnight. It's dark and buttoned up by that time.

As Carol said, we don't know that the RAT is real time - and I live with someone who is an expert on systems like this - we are pretty sure it isn't (I believe his words are "even Disney IT isn't that stupid"). This makes sure that the lookers don't impact the higher priority bookers with their queries. Since rooms like the one you got can disappear really fast when they do show up, they may never hit the RAT.

Most of what you hit via the web are read-only databases that get updated from another regularly. This is both for speed and security. [I'll bet anything they're using something called SQL "availability groups", the latest Microsoft oxymoron. They notoriously, inexplicably (thanks to bugs, aka 'features') stop working and have to be restarted and then they catch back up.]

Only when you click to select a room and are given that 20 minute window does the active database actually get changed. Same when MS "grabs" a room.
