I liked the hydrolators... but I never cared for the preshow film.

Well while we're being disagreeable, I disagree

I thought the preshow film, though only being 8 minutes long...felt eerie and somehow very interesting at the same time.

Did little kids love it? Probably not. I did, but I'm not a normal person

Anyway, I wish there could have been a happy medium, keep the preshow, the hydrolators and make the Nemo ride a separate attraction once you arrive at Seabase Alpha, the same way they did with Turtle Talk.

Does it fit the theming perfectly? No, but how do you explain being in something that looks like a Seabase right after you watch Nemo being found, with no introduction to it at all?

I liked the hydrolators, too, but...I think I'm getting old! While I do remember watching a preshow I absolutely cannot remember anything about it.

I like Nemo and Turtle Talk also. I did have my doubts at first, but as soon as I actually saw the attractions, I thought they were a very nice addition to the pavillion.

Lets face it. The whole concept of EPCOT as Walt envisioned it and the concept of a Future World is virtually impossible to maintain over the long haul. Like the changes or not, I believe Disney has done a reasonable job in keeping EPCOT fresh. It certainly is one of my favorite parks to visit and I end up spending most of my time there.

II miss some of the old attractions but IMO if it remained today as it was 20 years ago it would look old and stale. The problem seems to be in keeping the old names for the worlds rather than what is in them.

to skier_pete: Not saying that Nemo is the bad/negative in the attraction and maybe I worded it a bit wrong but I guess its really hard for those in the older generation to relate with nemo. Like I said in my previous post, it was very hard for my mom to understand the storyline however it is a bit cool that they've made edutainment fun for the kids but at the same point it still kinda has to keep the relatablility for the adults.

My issue (besides simply missing the old pavilion "story" of the trip to a sea base), is that there isn't as much cool stuff to learn or play with anymore.

The Queue used to have a bunch of cool old stuff relating to sea exploration.

And the SeaBase "Pods" tended to have bunch of really cool hands on stuff such as the dive suit, shark jaws, etc, as well as some general information about the seas of the world and aquatic life.


Now the Queue is just a transition from the beach to the underwater area to ride the shells....

and the SeaBase Pods are pretty barren with just some small fishtanks (cool! Clown Fish! Those are nemo!!), and a couple trivia touchscreens around the room......oh! and a holding pen for Turtle Talk.


True, the big aquarium is still there, but it just seems that the pavilion is lacking a lot of the extra cool stuff to learn and explore that it used to have.

I don't like that I always seem to be Mr. Positive around here, and while I generally agree with dissapointment in the lowering of the educational values of "Future World", I DON'T agree with Nemo being a bad change to the Seas.

My daughter (8) only knows the Seas as it is now, but the Seas is one of her favorite things about Epcot. She is into the ocean in a big way and it is because of that pavillion. Yes, the ride has no educational value whatsoever, but once you get into the building there's lots of little stations that teach you about fish, sharks, manatees and other sea creatures. They also have demos from the dolphin trainers if you are there at the right time, and they have the scuba divers come out as well. Sure, it's not a lot, but it doesn't HAVE to be - you're only going to be there for an hour at most. We pretty much have to go to this pavillion every time we enter Epcot.

And THIS is really what future world should be about. It's not there to make you an expert on a topic, but it should give you enough background to make you - and more importantly your kids - want to go out and learn more. The LAND to me still works this way, even if Soarin' doesn't do that, but the boat ride and the Lion King movie are pretty good about this. Innovations is actually decent as well and maybe SSE. The rest of future world, not so much.

I agree with you completely on this. DW and I raised are kids to have fun with learning. We took them to silly kids shows and watched the silly kids shows on TV but we also brought them up to understand that learning can be fun and rewarding. Some of our vacations were to the aquarium or to Washington DC to see the Smithonian. The kids did not need constant stimulation so looking a museum for an day did not cause tantrums.

We took them on trips to Story Land, Enchanted Forest and Sesame Place too so it was not all about learning.

I think Disney's decision to convert The Living Seas to The Seas with Nemo and Friends was to address the masses of families that have to stimulate their kids all the time. If attendance to an attraction is dropping off you need to make a change to draw them back in. It may not be what I would consider the best change but it is a business decision.

We have always loved Future World and World Showcase. As many times as we have gone to Epcot we always find something new and interesting. One year when the kids were younger we spent half the day being firefighters and building robots in Inovations. The Inovations buildings are probably skipped by most families bacause they hear about Soarin and run right past to go on the rides.

I remember and loved the original versions but my kids only know the current Nemo version and yes it is pretty much "let's go see Nemo and Crush" then back again for lunch or dinner at the Coral Reef later. But I would truly miss this attraction with or without Nemo. I just hope they can figure this out and get the isuues resolved.

If you completely ignore the older version of the attraction, and enter it now...it is entirely possible to see Nemo, Turtle Talk, and walk out without ever really exploring the world's 2nd largest aquarium, because honestly they don't promote that aspect of it. A couple of small signs, or if you start walking around to purposely explore things, you may actually realize how there's this HUGE aquarium around.

I found this true. I've been to DW 6 times now and went in The Seas 5 of those times. Before my last trip there was a 10 yr gap unfortunately. The manatees and this pavillion in general were one of my absolute favorites. On our last visit we were so excited to ride Nemo because it was our families 1st time to ride it, we forgot all about the aquarium. It was days later I realized we missed so much. I don't remember any signs telling us there was something else to see. I just forgot in our haste to see and do everything. Since it was 10 yrs since our last trip and our 1st with the kids, we were like go go go!!! Had I seen more signs I would've loved to show my kids the manatees I so loved when I was a kid. Now I'm on a mission and will not forget it when our next trip comes around.

I miss Enchanted Forest so much!!! You're talking about the one in Ellicott City MD? I remember one time we were on this train/tram and it was trying to make it up the hill and it couldn't go and all the dads hoped out and helped push it LOL! Is Story Land the one in NJ?
