Major DLR Entertainment Cuts

I wonder if they will add any extra firework shells to F! to make up for the FW loss? We are not huge F! fans (I have a problem with the calling on the forces of evil segment), but without FW we would certainly be flexible and plan an evening around it.

The first thing I think when I hear that F! will be playing every night.....
"Stay away from the rivers of america and new orleans square at night." Haha.

Hahaha :P
I think we can all say we've been stuck in that madness going from the Rivers back to the Main gates to call it a night. Maybe even trying to get one last ride on Indiana Jones, only to find that the wait is "45 Mins from this Point"? :lmao: )

But anywho, it's safe to say that Aladdin will be around for a while, right?

Hmmm... I'm beginning to wonder if things might be more normal come May or if they will be be way down on Entertainment

I am not sure why everyone believes these cuts are due to budget. Maybe they are just exactly what was said above: Temporary schedule changes.

Disneyland is entering the slow time.

It has been stated above that they are not doing parades or fireworks due to repaving Main Street. If Main Street needs work when would YOU do it?

January: MKL: possible
February: Pres. weekend: possible
Mar. - Apr: Spring Breaks: no
May - Aug: Summer: no
September: Labor Day weekend: possible, but short time available
October: Halloween: no
November: Thanksgiving: no
December: Christmas festivities, NYE: no

Looks to me like January - February is the best time to do projects of any length.

It seems to me like they are just working on things when they can, not cutting these items due to bugets.

So they can't do fireworks during the repaving? Is that just because there won't be places for people to watch?

During the repaving....will we only be able to walk on the sidewalks? That's going to be a nightmare.

I think you're right that's why they won't have the fireworks during the repaving. The crowd control would be way too hard because the only place people can stand is on the sidewalk and there won't be anywhere for people to walk and that would be crazy madness.

They'll probably be doing it in sections. There's no way to get that many people on the sidewalks!

As for the reason why they won't do fireworks, if you just paid for repaving or your driveway, would you want a hoard of people standing on it for an hour straight in one spot, causing new depressions in the fresh pavement? Walking is a lighter pressure experience to the surface, standing is long term pressure.

That being said, they will only close sections of the street at a time - kind of like road construction on major highways and city streets.

Dreams is right - it is the slow time and folks going to WDW will experience similar types of things at this time of year (they are taking their Space Mountain down soon for refurb, but protests are so bad, they can't give it the overhaul that ours got).

Totally agree with nancy and dreams...people want improvements made to the park but when disney tries to do it they are mad that it is no a good time to do it. I dont think they'll do it all at once but merely sections at a time. And you can't possibly do fireworks while they are repaving because where will you put everyone who wants to watch? Someone mentioned it will be a nightmare just having normal walking traffic during the slow season on the sidewalks only so can you imagine trying to do fireworks?

And the WDW protests are a joke. WDW should redo space moutain if they want to. It cracks me up how some people think they can decide what disney can and cant do and when they can do it. :confused3 :rolleyes1

I am about to get timed off here at the library, but next time I come in I'm going to go to Disney and see what they have on schedule for summer. I was going to splurge and book this week. If the shows, parades, and fireworks are gone we won't be going. I can see the theme now "Full Disney Prices: Pseudo-Disney Experience: Will you still Celebrate?"

I don't know if they'll have anything that far out, but if I had to guess, they'll get everything up and running before the summer crowds hit. I think that's why they are starting all these refurbs and such right now, as soon as the holiday crowds end.

When do you (and others who are upset) expect Disney to fix / update / change things? If Main Street needs to be repaved, they need to suspend certain activities during that time to be able to do so.

People post that their vacation will be ruined if X ride, X parade, X whatever is down during their trip. What about the 12,000 other things that can be done at Disneyland during that same time?

I could be wrong (and I will do some research on this) but I think Fantasmic! is never shown 5 days a week in January and February, yet there is not one post about how great that is.

I don't think it is a "pseudo-disney experience" if one or two pieces of a thousand piece puzzle are missing. They have to fix stuff some time, don't they?

I have to agree. We love love love Space Mountain and would hate to go without it running, but if that was the only thing we loved at WDW, we wouldn't go. It wouldn't be worth thousands of dollars just to ride that one ride. It's the culmination of the sites and sounds and rides that keep us going back.

I would be sad if SM was closed during our DL trip simply because we've heard how much better it is than WDW's version, but even if it did go down, there are so many other things that we want to do.

Dreams I couldnt have said it better myself. People need to realize that they are not the ones who decide when things get refurbed...it is never a perfect time for everyone but you know that when you decide to go during the offseason! I can live without space or big thunder for a few visits if it means it is better when it returns. For those who say it ruins their vacations...well then perhaps if it is that dependent on one single thing you should vacation elsewhere. To me disney is more than just a ride...like I said it's the feeling of being there with my loved ones.

Has anyone in this thread really been super upset about the refurbishment stuff? If so, I must have forgotten those posts already. :confused3

If you're going in the summer you will be more than fine. The street should be all fixed up and ready to go by Mid March. :)

:thumbsup2 ITA.

It's just a compromise you have to make. Either go in the off season and not have to deal with so many crowds AND have some rides down for refurb or go during the peak season, have crazy crowds but have every ride open. But then people go during off season and complain about rides being down OR they go during the peak season and they complain about crowds. :confused3

I have posted before, elsewhere on this forum, that no one likes the idea of their favorite ride etc. being shut down for refurbishment. However, it is very important that certain work be done, and done so within a certain time frame. Otherwise, one will have more than just their favorite ride not operating. Inspections have to be made, by the State of Ca. and if the inspectors have a problem with an attraction, then that will mean that these said attractions will be closed for an even longer period of time, quite possibly. Now that would be worse, not just for someone planning their trip, but as well for Dl.
It is imperative that refurbishments take place. Hopefully for one that is planning a visit, such work will not take place for their favorite ride, etc. Also hopefully a ride will not break down, in the meantime. For Dl can only extend a refurbishment for so long, then that could happen. The larger the repair work needed, the more time it will be down for.
