Major change of plans!!!

Orginally, DH, DD2, and DS 3 months, and I were going to WDW and staying at Poly in July. However, this has changed, sort of.

My uncle has just discovered he is really poorly and is going to be on chemo for around 3 months. We have offered to take my cousins (6 & 4) to WDW with us in July to give my uncle and aunt peace because they are both lively boys.

My 2 other aunts and uncles have offered to come with us and help as we will have our DD2 and DS 3 months (this will be going on his first trip!) and we have taken up their offer!!

I can't believe it!! So many people coming to WDW with us, it's going to be fab.

However can you send pixie dust for my uncle please

Have any of you done a trip with so many family members and do you have any tips on how to keep control of 2 very lively 4 & 6 year old boys??

DH and I have only ever been to WDW with our DD before!!

What are we letting ourselves in for?!?!

Wow, you must truly be a blessing to offer to take your uncle's kids. It takes someone special to do something like that. We also take two or three of our cousins when we go because my dad knows that they would never be able to go. They receive $25-$50 in souvenir money from my dad, we get all their emergency info., and we basically treat them like our own brothers and sisters.

Thank you all again!

This will be their first ever trip to WDW and we want to make it so special for them. They haven't been having a great time recently but we all want to make up for it. I'm sure they'll have tons of fun with us. Plus, our DD will have 2 playmates!!!

I am going next Monday with my DH, our kids, his parents and my step mother and sister! My 6 yo son is going nuts in anticipation! I can't imagine taking a few kids his age!

Does anyone have any ideas with what boys may like at WDW? We've only ever taken DD2, so all we know really is princesses, princesses, princesses!!!

Prayers and pixie dust for your uncle! How nice of you to bring the kids both for them to have some fun time and take their minds off of things and for your aunt and uncle to have some quiet at home.

My sons are 4 and 6 now. I've taken them by myself once (they were 2 and 4) and just got back from a trip my Mom and I took them on where Mom got sick and I was on my own with them for most of the time. We've taken a few trips as a family as well. I can tell you that they are better behaved and less "wild" at WDW than they are at home! LOL They are easier to control there than at home (not that they are bad at home...they are just active little guys ).

As for what they like...they DON'T do princesses at all (except Belle...the little one has a big crush on Belle). LOL They adore Aladdin and Peter Pan so if we see those characters we have to stop. The Lights Motor Action Stunt Show at MGM is a BIG hit. The Indy show is good too but not like the LMA show. Meeting the Power Rangers was a big deal this time (not sure why it was SUCH a big deal as they don't watch the shows). If you go to meet them at MGM, you need to have the adults each stand in differnet lines or you will only get to meet one, MAYBE 2 rangers. If you have 2 or 3 adults you'll be fine. They just line hop and the kids meet up with them once they are done with their line (you stand with the kids for green ranger, DH stands in line for red. When your pic is done, you take his place in the red line and he goes to blue etc.) You'll find lots of other parents doing the same thing and especially if the kids are photographed together, people don't complain (if you took 3 different pics of 3 kids they may but all together it's not so big a deal). Meeting Buzz and Woody is always good too (not so much a big deal for the 6 year old but still a biggie for the 4 yo). If your cousins are like my boys, the monorail is an attraction to itself and riding up front is a BIG deal. My boys love Chef Mickeys and we always politely ask for a table in the section up front where they can see the monorail whiz by (I ask at check in and tell them we will wait a little while longer for a table there is need be). The train at the MK is a hit (my kids are train fans) as is "the blue train" (know as the TTA to everyone else ). Speaking of trains...we must always see the train layout in Germany when at Epcot. One's fave ride is Thunder, the other's is Splash so those are must dos for us.

Just look for the boy characters in addition to your princesses. Aladdin and Peter Pan are faves for us because they are face characters so the kids get to chat with them. Other than that...they'll love all the rides just like your DD does.

Oh yeah...forgot! Lunch at Sci-Fi eating in the cars was a big hit this last trip too!

Like glass slipper girl, I'm the mother of two active boys, ages 5.5 and freshly-minted-2! I am planning our first trip to Disneyland, so I'm afraid I won't be a whole lot of help, but I agree with everything glass slipper girl said. Buzz Lightyear is a big deal in our house, so we will definitely be doing that ride and hoping to meet him and Woody.

I would plan physical activities throughout the day, especially if there is a lot of time in shows or standing in line when you go. Seek out places to run, climb and jump. (In DL, I'm thinking of Tom Sawyer Island, Dot's Puddle Park, and a new Toddler Playground with the Bug's Life theme.) We're also planning to return to our hotel mid-day for nap for the younger son, and swimming with the older one.

They will probably also love anything mechanical, so fire trucks, old cars, ships, etc. may catch their interest.

I'd also like to say how wonderful it is of you to take your cousins on your trip! It's such a loving thing to do for the boys and for their parents. And how lovely that other family members are coming along for to help and enjoy the trip with you! You are truly a special person, and I think the boys are going to have a wonderful time. I wish all the best for your uncle's health and recovery.

We've gave them some Disney movies to watch (Peter Pan, Toy Story, Aladdin etc) so they can 'get to know' the characters.

One more thing that I don't recall seeing anyone else mention. Don't be afraid for the group to split up for awhile. This will make it easier for everyone to see what they want, and I would imagine it's a little easier to move through a large park in smaller groups. Rather than have your cousins hang around while your toddler sees the Princesses, have someone take them to see something else that will interest them. And maybe the adults can 'swap kids' for awhile, too - When you've had enough of the slower, gentle pace or your kids want to take a nap but you don't (or someone's been with the boys and needs a break!), give your relatives your kids and go run around on the wild rides with the boys!

Get thee to TourGuideMike.com and draw up a touring plan for your visit. If the grownups can handle it, you'll want to get those kiddies out of bed early and over to the parks as soon as the rope drops -- during the EMH if appropriate. Long lines and young kids don't mix very well, and if you can get to the park as soon as you possibly can, you'll be rewarded with short lines, lots of rides, and back to the hotel by noon for some swimming and quality nap time in the afternoon. Then you can bring them back in the p.m. for more.

You WILL encounter resistance after a day or two of this. Persevere. The rewards of short lines and wide-open rides far outweigh the whining you may encounter as you try and wake slumbering kidlings.

The Playhouse Disney character meal at MGM will have started by the time your trip rolls around. My kids are 4 and 5 and would love that meal. Those are great ages to take kids to WDW. I have taken my kids at every age from baby until now and it is fun no matter what.


Your cousins would also probably love the Power Ranger meet and greet also at MGM, Kim Possible and Ron Stopable also do a meet and greet up the block from the PR spot. Since the boys will probably be able to do some rides that your DD will not be able to do take advantage of the child swap feature.



They will all love Fantasyland at the MK.

Don't be surprised if the boys kinda do like the princesses there is something about a Disney princess calling a little boy My Prince that just gets to them. My DS has been known to sport a lipstick kiss or 2.


If you want to do a princess meal I would go for 1900 Park Fair because the prince is there too. The last time I went I dressed my DS up as Peter Pan since you cant get any prince costumes and DD was Jasmine. I once saw a boy who looked to be 9 or 10 there ( he had no sibs or other kids at the table) and he was wearing the Sorcerer Mickey hat that lights up.


In fantasyland if you want to take DD to see Aerial for example let the boys play in the grotto and get wet ( I usually bring extra clothes so I can change my kids)


I would also rent a stroller for your cousins since they will be doing a lot more walking than normal.
