Just curious - we are thinking of doing DD's first hair cut there in July. Are we crazy as we haven't booked it yet? Is there a chance for availability? What was your experience like there? Do they do anything special for a first haircut?
Thanks for your help!

1- Are we crazy as we haven't booked it yet?
2- Is there a chance for availability?

1-You can try to book it ASAP. Call 407-WDW-DINE, ask for "Childrens' Activities."
2- Yes. Also, walk-in's are still available.
3- It's a Disney classic.
4- Yes.
"First Haircuts" are the shop's specialty. Children who receive their first haircut at the shop will get a complimentary Mickey Ears hat with "First Haircut" stitched on the back and a certificate of the unforgettable event to take home. The "First Haircut" experience is $18.

Me and my son had our hair cut there two years ago, they did a great job and were very nice people. We did a walk in and waited about 25min before sitting down in the chair. They are really good with cutting childrens hair of course. My song started crying for a min and the cast member cutting his hair made him smile by giving him some toys to play with and talking with him. I would recommend trying it out :)

Hey O.P

you can book on the number Robo supplied.

I went last october mid morning around 11ish on entry to MK there was nobody in at the time, all 4 of them were just sat on the chairs, i walked in and asked if their was anyway to book a haircut and he smirked and asked me what i was doing right now and told me to fight my way through the crowds to his chair lol

shorltly after a another family came in too, it was very quiet but i dont remember ever seeing this busy, people dont realise this is a geniune working babershop lol

im going to make it a point now of trying to get a haircut as the dapper dans somtimes drop by and sing. the guy cutting my hair was telling me that the dapper dans usually start their main street tour by stopping by the barbershop and singing a song before heading down the streets.

never actually witnessed this so unsure how true that is lol i know that info from a bus driver is usually not that good unsure about a barber at disney lol

anyways i would book it if its somthing that is a defo must for your family after all you only ever have one haircut so it would be a nice memory for you and your partner. so book ahead to guarantee a place, other wise a morning drop in will probably be fine. if not im sure they can book you in for another time during your trip.

have a wonderful trip and a wonderful time creating memories.

They did a great job on DS1's first haircut. He was really crabby that day and I didn't know if he was going to be able to handle the haircut. They did great occupying him with stickers, toys, etc. The barber was very attentive in anticipating when he was getting the slightest but restless and gave him a new toy. Along with the "First Haircut" ears and certificate, the barber also saved his hair clippings, wrapped them up, sealed with a Mickey sticker and put them in a small pouch for us to keep as well. It was a great experience and a great story to tell about his first haircut!

We did DS first haircut there and it was ADORABLE! They were so good with him and we ended up getting "First Haircut" Mickey Ears and we got a certificate with a tuft of his hair. Totally worth it!!!!

I would like to say we had a good experience with my son's first haircut at the barber shop, but we didn't it was horrible. My son became upset, and the toys were not working to keep him happy. We asked if he could sit on either mine or my husband's lap and we were told no that is very unsafe. They wanted us to force my son to sit still. Well most boys getting their first haircut are one. The haircut was a mess and crooked. My hairdresser had to fix it when we got home from our trip. My son was happy with my hairdresser sitting on my husband's lap.

The hairdresser was sitting on your husband's lap?

Lol, I know what you meant but it made me chuckle.

lol Robo...

How much is a hair cut for a 9 yr old??

And while this is a barber shop, and when i think of barber shop i think mens hair cut...

How well do the cut girls hair??

Thanks so much for the responses !! I think we will give it a shot if we an get an appointment! Thanks for all of the information! We are staying CL - might the IPO be able to book this for us?

My husband and son always get a cut and sparkles at the barber shop and my daughter and I always get an updo. We have never had a reservation, but always are there on very slow days. For us it is not a vacation without our haircut!

We had my DD 1st haircut here. It was the year before they took appointments, but it was a wonderfully magical experience. She did surprisingly well and enjoyed feeling special. By the time we left she was covered in Mickey stickers from her shirt to her sneakers, had a special ear hat, a 1st haircut certificate, and lots of Pixie Dust! :thumbsup2
I would try to call ASAP and if they don't have any openings, keep trying and/or do a walk in. It is definitely worth it, I still love looking at the pictures from that experience.

It has only been in the last few years they have taken appointments, prior to that it was walk-in only. Availability for walk-ins is hit or miss ever since it has become the poor man's BBB. Sometimes there is a line out the door, sometimes you can walk in and have a minimal wait. I would call for an appointment if you really want to do this.

Thanks all! We are booked for a late afternoon so she'll be fresh after her nap and ready for the night! Super excited!!!

Thank you OP for posting this !!

Our son is getting his first haircut there this fall. Reading thru the magical experiences has me SUPER excited !

I hope you guys get in !!

Do they do the colored hair gel anymore? One of our favorite memories. DS got a Mohawk with bright green color and pirate dust. We had people all over wanting their pics taken with them. Lol.

Last I heard, the company that made the colored gel stopped making it and they haven't been able to get any....pixie dust still happens though! Seems like Disney should put a little money into creating the gel, everyone I've heard from loved that part of the haircut!

One important thing to remember at the MK Barber Shop. When they removed the old antique cash register and put in a terminal to allow use of credit cards and hotel charges and the like they hooked into The Emporium's network. The register, unlike ones in table service restaurants, cannot handle tips as part of the transaction.

So if you are planning on using the Harmony Barber Shop please be aware that if you are using any sort of card you cannot add a tip on the card and should have cash available for tipping.
