Main Dining rooms

I went out of my way to point out that the point of the thread was about the menu selections, and some people did respond to that, but so many are still stuck on this service angle. This comment strikes me as the oddest of all. In an effort to sell something this post reduces the mdr staff at DCL to that of an Applebee's.

I'm not trying to sell you anything. You conveniently ignored when I said that while I agree that selection and quality aren't the best (3 out of 5 stars), the service is what makes a HUGE difference.

Also for someone who hasn't been on a cruise before, let alone a DCL cruise, you are completely jumping the gun and making assumptions if you think service of MDR DCL is anywhere close to any on-land casual dining restaurants. The service throughout the whole ship and specially on MDRs is head and shoulders above anything I've experienced on land and that includes some spiffy joints I've been to. If you would have posted this thread AFTER you cruised, it would make much more sense, as a review/complaint. But to make this much fuss about something you've never experienced is quite frankly asinine.

Also, what's your end game here? Trying to get confirmation bias to cancel your reservation? Have buyer's remorse?

Ok, so I ignored this thread most of the day since it's just nonsense now. If you get this uptight over losing control over a thread you started, you need to cancel your cruise now. There are things that happen on a ship that will be out of your control be that it is the service or cancellation of an excursion due to weather or even that you asked for ketchup! If it is the choice of only 5 entrees that has your panties in a bunch now I can just see what happens when they announce your name to welcome you aboard!

God do not ask for ketchup you will go into shock at what the waiters bring.

I didn't even think of that until you brought it up! Oh God that would be to die for!!!

Can someone please explain the ketchup thing???

They don't bring it in a bottle like a traditional restaurant. The usually bring it on a plate with a design like Mickey ears. Or sometimes they pour it on your plate for you. We still have to pour our kids ketchup in Mickey ears form for them at home because they liked it so much on the ship.

Ah cool!

For what its worth-- we were on the Fantasy in Oct and I thought the food was just fine--and plenty of it!!!

yes, but we're sailing with a couple of grandparents who want main seating. So we're on main seating.. Also, my kids get hungry early.. we're on east coast so the time that dinner is, is usually the time we eat at home.

Again, Dine 'n' Play is NOT anything special. The servers will bring out the kids' food first regardless of which seating you're on, and when they're done one of you escorts them to the club or lab and is back in less than five minutes to enjoy the rest of your meal. Then, if they want to go to the show, you pick them up when you're heading to the theatre. We do this every time our DD doesn't want to stay for the whole meal.
