I have heard of people doing this and the closer we get to our trip, the more I like the idea. Has anyone here done this? How did it turn out? Tell me please!!

I did it last May, with absolutely no problems at all (except I didn't have any cash on me to tip the CM that delivered it....I felt HORRIBLE). We stayed at the Contemporary Resort. I am doing the same thing on Monday for our trip next week :) First, I checked www.UPS.com to see how long it would take to ship the package from my hometown. We check in on Saturday, so I am shipping it on Monday or Tuesday. The address label should have the resort name and address, but it should also say ATTN: your name & arrival date somewhere on the labe.

HTH!

Thanks Madge! Looks like it's gonna take about a week from here. I'll have to get on that!

I wanted to ship a few snacky things..... and only buy perishables during the grocery stop. I also think we'll ship a small coffee maker- my dh is a coffee freak and it's the first thing he needs when he wakes up. Then if we need to, we can ship souvies home in the box and not worry about fitting everything into our suitcases.

OMG! The first time I looked at the title of this thread, I thought it read "Mailing yourself in a box to the resort". I really need new reading glasses!

What kind of things are you shipping in advance?

diapers, wipes, film, snacks...that sort of thing.

Too claustrophobic to get in a box.... I don't even like to wear turtlenecks!;)

Well, I hope Mickey's not too claustrophobic! ;) I'm shipping several plush Mickey's that I bought on sale to use as a surprise!

We have quite a group going this year so I thought for the 'first timers' it would be cute to put a plush Mickey & a special note from him on their beds.

I shipped boxes for everybody in our group; film, ponchos, diapers, wipes, MistyMates, Brita Bottles, everything that we might need but could be taken out of luggage and shipped. I sent them on Tuesday, they got there on Thursday and we got there on Saturday.

The CM who delivered them to our room said he wasn't allowed to accept a tip; I don't know what his position was, but that's what he said.

Our boxes didn't hold up well enough to be used to ship stuff back in, but the front desk at BCV boxed and shipped for us.

I am going to be the devil's advocate here but isn't that going to the extreme. I would think the CMs would get a little tired of accepting and storing boxes for future guests. Do you get any hassle from them? I am flying down this trip, we drove the last 5 times, and was wondering if I have anough space for everything. After seeing my luggage allowances we can take 3 suitcases, 1 at 62 inch and 2 at 58 inch plus a carryon for each person. I am sure that is more then enough room. We are only going to take one large suitcase each and I am packing one small roll on with some snacks. That way I can use the roll on for souveniers when we return. Is anyone shipping stuff AND still using up your luggage allowances or are you just trying to cut down to one or two suitcases?

It seems to me that alot of people ship things to themselves that are disposable... food items, diapers - you know... things you will use on the trip that would not be coming back with you.

Which is what I'm doing. I'm shipping gift stuff that I am using for the trip (Plush Mickeys, cookies, glow sticks) that will not be coming back with me.

As far as Disney getting "tired of holding boxes for future guests" - I would think that they wouldn't want your box to get there more than 2 days before you... that would seem to be a bit extreme.

As far as CM's being "annoyed" if it's allowed, it's allowed- period. They can get annoyed all they want, but it's part of their job. When Disney decides it's too much of a pain, they will no longer allow it.

We were considering shipping a box for our October trip. Normally, we would just purchase the items when we got to Florida. However, this year we are attending the MNSSHP and I would like to ship our costumes or at least our hats. They would get crushed in our suitcases.

Still debating. I guess it will depend on how much room we have in our carry ons.

Kelly -

What a great idea!! I never thought about shipping the costumes. Just be careful if you ship them with food or something that could spill and ruin them. This is something that would happen to me lol!!!

As to shipping the stuff back home, BCV was all set up to do it. We bought those enormous shopping bags in the gift shop, put our stuff in them, filled out a "shipping request" form and handed everything to the CM's at the front desk. They are the ones who provided the forms we filled out, and my impression was that they do it several times a day. There is actually a shipping/receiving department somewhere near, because my older son talked to somebody who worked in that department.

We had a group of 7 adults and 3 kids, so my concern was more on getting everything into the Tiffany van that picked us up.

Yes, this worked out great!
I sent a huge box with the kids Easter Baskets.
The CM at ASM was so nice. She kept the box there until
I called the desk when the kids were asleep.
I sent it usps and tracked it so I knew when it was to arrive.
It was so easy. I am so glad I read about shipping a
package ahead of time because finding a Easter Basket the day before Easter would have been slim pickins:p

I shipped my 35-pound  package this morning...it should be at the Dolphin on Friday and I arrive on Saturday. YAY! I had to laugh, though...I was prepared to explain step-by-step how to label the package with my name and the arrival date. Apparently, people do this all the time in my area :) no explanations necessary!
