Ok I'm going to Disneyland, I know I mostly read about WDW here but I thought I might ask. I have this co-worker (not even friend) who has decided that she's giving me $600 to buy her stuff from this half-page list she gave me. I'm pretty sure the duty-free spending limit to bring back is $750, so that doesn't leave much room for my souvenirs since half the list is "really big ______ stuffy." :headache: Now my question is should I tell her to chill out, save up the some more money to go herself, or offer to mail it back at her expense. I live on Vancouver Island, does anyone know approximately how expensive it would be to mail? Do I have to bring my own stamps/box? Not only would I be taking the time out of my vacation to try and find something to match her list but I would also be taking the time to mail it. Any opinons would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I would say I have gifts to buy for others including myself. Tell her to pick the top three things off the list she wants and be no bigger than a bread box. If she challenges the issue tell her to go buy a plane ticket and take a long walk off a short pier :lmao:

I think that if you go to the USA for 7 days or longer, the duty free amount is $1000.00. I'm not completely 100% sure about this, so I would advise that you check with Canada Customs when you leave, or check out their website. I do know that if the amount of the items are $20.00USD or less, when shipping from the USA to Canada there is no duty. Sometimes they give you a little more wiggle room about it, but not much. I also agree with drag n fly to pick out the things she wants the most for you bring back. It will be less for you to deal with. And packing a large box for shipping, and potientally getting things broken in transit, may cause bad feeling between you and your friend. And ultimately it's your vacation, and if you are spending more time packing the items, it's taking time out of your vacation that you could be doing other fun things with.

Can you very tactfully tell this person that it is a MUCH MUCH better deal for her financially to buy through the disney store online? Try to sell it that they'll save money that way?

That is a LOT to ask for even a very close friend or family to do, buy $600 worth of stuff that you have to look for, pack and mail? Sorry that's crazy making IMHO.

I would tell them that you are going YOURSELF and have things to buy for yourself and family, etc... I wouldnt even have the nere to ask a friend to bring me back $600 worth of things and for 7 days its $750 CAD not even US I would tell her to save up and go herself or go to the Disney Store. About shipping I wouldnt even chance it as who knows for sure and if it gets lost YOU will be responsible PLUS I think you'd have to be in the US to put in a claim which mean you would have to go back to do that.

Again its taking from YOUR time of looking for things yourself and doing your own thing to look for her items you can tell her IF I find anything which is under $100 (thats only if you wanted to) that you would bring that back but I wouldnt go out of my way to do something expecially IF it isnt family or at most a REALLY close friend not worth wasting your time

Thanks for the posts! I think I'll take your advice and tell her I already have too much souvenirs to buy. I really wouldn't mind if she was even a friend, we've worked together for 6 months but I didn't even know her name for the first 2. I just hope she doesn't take it the wrong way. Thank you!
