If we want to send mail to friends with the postmark, should we come prepared with mail to send or are their postcards there that would be better to buy and send?

They have postcards to buy, and a team member is there to post mark it for you, but you can't actually send it from there. You should purchase your own stamps because if you want to buy them there they charge an arm and a leg because they are "collector stamps".

I'm confused... I thought the stamp was applied once the post office took it and was going to send it out, to show where it was mailed from and when. I thought once something was postmarked it couldn't be put back in the mail.

I thought a postmark meant you were actually sending it too...

we bought the postcards and the stamps at the shop there. There is someone there who puts the Hogsmeade postmark on the postcard---we actually had the TM stamp that first, then we wrote out the postcard (at the TM's suggestion, that way we knew how much space we had left to write on the postcards). Then we brought them back to the TM and and the TM dropped them in the mail slot. We sent one to ourselves and you can see the "real" post office post mark (that says Orlando and the date) lightly over the Hogsmeade Owl Post mark.
